The jury in the McD's coffee burn case awarded the lady $160K compensatory and then hit McD's with a $2.7 mil punitive judgment b/c they had like 700 cases of folks getting burnt with coffee and not doing much about it. If this is something of a pattern with CVS stores around the country/planet, then maybe she can sell a jury a million dollar punitive damages award. Would guess the case gets settled for far enough into 6 figures for the attorneys to get paid and for the lady to get $100K+ herself--unless she's really out to prove a point. |
