Post subject:  People who check their phones in movie theaters

Are you not aware that your phone gives off light in a mostly dark theater with people directly behind you? It's always awesome when you have to spend half the movie with a little phone light just at the bottom of your vision field. If you want to check your phone either sit in the back row, go home, or buy all the tickets in the theater.

Luckily, this last weekend the person only did it twice. A few months ago, someone was constantly on their phone and we actually had to move. I couldn't help myself and said to them "Don't worry, we'll move to different seats since you want to spend the whole movie on your phone". Ironically, they didn't use it any more.

Oh, and to the girl who had to take pictures of the screen to post to instagram, I hope your classmates cyberbully you and you spend the rest of your life with low self esteem.

A National Review writer went a step further:

Quote:
The lady seated to my immediate right (very close quarters on bench seating) was fairly insistent about using her phone. I asked her to turn it off. She answered: “So don’t look.” I asked her whether I had missed something during the very pointed announcements to please turn off your phones, perhaps a special exemption granted for her. She suggested that I should mind my own business.

So I minded my own business by utilizing my famously feline agility to deftly snatch the phone out of her hand and toss it across the room, where it would do no more damage. She slapped me and stormed away to seek managerial succor. Eventually, I was visited by a black-suited agent of order, who asked whether he might have a word.

Yeah, that's a little overboard.

However, for the young lady who was taking pictures of the screen, the thought did cross my mind to go to the management of the theater and tell them that someone was recording the screen. I may have even gotten a reward!

I once had the entire theater to myself for Jackass 3D. It was nice to be able to occasionally check my phone for Twitter and read e-mails. It's not like I really needed to follow a plot. Granted I would never do that in the presence of others. Hate that shit. Although, with the iPhone, I decrease my phone's brightness to about 5-10% so I can check it during the film. I like to gauge how much time is left in a film if it's dragging along.

That other thing was in some sort of high-brow theater performance.

yeah, definitely.

And actually thats a way to get security moving if need be.

It seems cell phones make people angry. I love the videos of teachers destroying them and people applauding them. So stupid...

Eh, I get angered at cell phone use often. When you see a moron veer into your lane, chances are he/she is using a cell phone (or one of those asshole motorcyclists). People who are talking so loud in a grocery that you hear their entire conversation, tell me that's not annoying. It's funny people-watching at a restaurant. Glance around and you frequently see couples sitting together at a table with both of them plugging away on their phones. When my GF wants date night, I make her leave her phone in the car. Same with mine.

Had to tell some asshole on the train last night to shut the fuck up as he thought singing at the top of his lungs to the entire train car was acceptable. Dont know what the fuck happens to people in public places where they think that shit is acceptable or that other people want to hear it.

I understand the frustration, its just funny to me that people applaud criminal behavior.

Probably would have done the same thing with this lady's cell phone had she hit me.

Which would be understandable....since she almost killed you.

This guy was annoyed by a light and decided that was justification to steal and destroy someone's property.

There's only so much you can do or should try to do. Personally, I think watching movies at home is far superior to the theater. But the proper thing to do is let the usher deal with that person.

Talking about cell phone use on B&B now.

I'm with you Rick, however, this is one situation where I've reached capitulation. We can make all the rules we want, but ultimately society will dictate its customs. Society says movie theaters are not places to sit quietly and watch movies. The battle is lost. So, from now on, just wait a few months and watch the blu-ray at home, and let the unwashed masses have their way. 8)
