Obviously this is a fucked up season. When they start unloading players they're probably going to lose 90+ games. Nobody wants to watch these bums. I've seen plenty of bad teams in my life, but I don't think one has been more miserable to watch than these clowns. On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha, you can listen to the strikeout as the bat misses the ball. Anyway, what is the Reinsdorf answer to the shitty team he has fielded and the low attendance it has created? Cut back concessions and services. The park was like a fucking ghost town yesterday on a sunny Saturday in June. I can't even imagine what it might be like come September. |

I envy the Cubs actually. They at least appear to have some sort of plan for the future. |

oh and JORR, has elmhurst $teve taught you nothing? please, it's white SUX. just picture a big doofy rhinolike middleaged man overflowing with unwarranted self importance in one of his ~10 ESPN1000 shirts giggling with himself at his keyboard thinking "i'm gonna piss off all of these loser kids by calling them the SUX again... heh heh heh" and like jon stewart would say, that's your moment of zen. |

As a long, long time Sox fan this year's iteration truly does Sux. Given the managing partner's long running imprimatur of fielding teams that make the exploding scoreboard go boom, the result is a product that doesn't reflect the modern nuances of today's baseball. You don't have to be a SABR geek to know that TWTW loses out every time to better gloves, faster foot speed, and bats that make contact. The only thing more tedious than their broadcast teams is their plodding station-to-station base running that requires one more batter to make a hit beyond the infield. Old habits have me tuning in and the new habit is to flip the channel or PTFB for radio. If there's any amusement it is playing "Hawk Bingo" as a drinking game but even rapid inebriation has its diminishing appeal. I don't know if ownership believes they could undergo the dreaded "R" word without accelerating the erosion of their fan base. I would welcome rebuilding and retrenching, and matching the reduction in payroll with holding the line on the ever escalating price of attending and enjoying a ballgame. I would welcome a team of younger players with more tools and upside potential, and that would include in the broadcast booths. Most Cubs fans I know can temper the acceptance of their team's inadequacies by having a sense of optimism about the future. Whether that future is real or an artificial byproduct of having having the game's recognized wunderkind, some optimism is justified (they can't get any worse, can they?). But as a Sox fan I'm starting to think that that I would prefer the inevitable to accelerate. At least once they are recognized being total "I'm suck" we fans can then engender some since of optimism as well. They can't stay worse forever, can they? |

Yeah, that's a pretty solid post. The first step is realizing you have a problem. They made a bad mistake thinking they could "kind of" compete this year. They were tied into some bad contracts and probably figured they might as well make a show of putting together a good team. Maybe season ticket sales would have been even worse if they admitted to a full rebuild. I dunno WTF they were thinking. Man I broke the record for theys in a post, but you can't point the finger at any one person in this fucked up organization. |

That's Major Suckage The first team I vaguely paid attention to was 1969 but I was only five years old. And yes those teams in '69 and '70 were absolutely brutal. My first favorite player was Bobby Knoop. I'm not even sure exactly how my dad sold me on being a fan of those bums. I think he talked about Aparicio a lot. But for a team that I actually followed, I'm sticking with this one as being hard to watch. Maybe that team with fat ass Bob James as the closer is in contention. 1986? I remember Raw Sewage was a pretty good middle reliever that year. |

I started following them hard-core in about 1980. Britt Burns was on a roll for a while. I recall following his starts closely. 1984 sucked pretty bad following 1983. When all my so-called friends started wearing Cubs hats, I was like, WTF are you doing? I thought you were Sox fans? |

Yesterday was "Family Sunday" which includes $5 tickets and $10 parking. 31,000+ showed up. Concessions didn't seem any different (at least in the upper deck). Toss in a free '83 jersey...pretty good deal IMO.

The only thing I can say is that maybe they are basing staffing on the tickets that have been pre-sold and that family day had more action. |

Maybe people see $5-$10 as a fair price for a baseball game. |

Graduation parties, bluesfest, etc. I'm more likely go to night games. I couldn't care less about the Sox attendance though. |
