So I heard these greedy fucks have made it so only games you buy work in the new system, no more renting, trading or buying used games will work in the New system.

The new XBOX handcuffs games from being resold. The intention is to satisfy big publishers to reduce future prices. Meh.

PS4's not changing shit.

XBox One has become the biggest joke on the internet. Nintendo must be praising Kami right now, since it's taken much of the disdain away from the U.

Just the XBone. Never trust anybody at GameStop.

Sony 1st party software will be DRM-free.

3rd party publishers will have to determine what they want to do. It's on them.

Seems like a horrible move by Xbox. Why would anyone opt for an Xbox now?

Fan boys will stay loyal, just how it is. Even if Sony has always been the superior race.

With the XBox One, Microsoft is where, IMO, the industry will be in a few years.

-Digital, no physical or physical is the 2nd place option.
-DRM/sharing/marketplace plans that support it.

The problem becomes Microsoft forcing this before the consumer is totally ready and the messaging/PR has been terrible. People should be fired for this. They should have laid out the plan and the path and eased consumers into it, at the very least allow offline play w/ no check in if you have the physical disc.

The fanboys are upset but in the end the console itself will sell a ton of units and the DRM/other plans will change quite a bit in the coming months and years.

The awesome thing is that the games/OS run on a virtual machine in the console so backwards compatibility is almost assured as new hardware is released.

Yup. It's actually good for everyone too. I don't think I've ever been using an ipad or a web based app and said "Damn, I wish I had to find a disc and install it, and then put in a cd key, and then patch it to the newest version and then I can finally use it".

What will be funny is that if Microsoft is able to pull this off most third party exclusives will eventually require DRM and other money grabs(see what EA gets away with already). Sony may be forced to put in similar policies.

As a consumer I'd much prefer physically owning something, I don't think it's good for everyone.

You're probably in the slim minority here though.

Whether people prefer it or not doesn't mean it's good for consumers.

Plus, as a father of 3 younger kids that play wii and Xbox, all the time CDs are damaged/ruined with scratches and fingerprints.

Although to contradict what I just said, as a father with kids that don't need games the day they come out, I love GameStop/ used games.

i always prefer physical media over digital buys.... as I typically sell a game once I beat it.... selling used games helps pay for my new games... and most of the new games I buy are used... so for me, the used game restrictions are a big deal..... while I like the ease of digital downloads (I've bought many $5-15 PSN games), I don't like how I cant re-sell a digital download.

From what I've been able to figure out (Microsoft's messaging on this hasn't been very good) you will be able to do just that.

And, for what it's worth, the family sharing system looks to be pretty sweet.

starting to be eerily similar to what sega was doing after the genesis. the cd, 32x, saturn, and dreamcast...and then, sega was obsolete.

I download the majority of my games off of PS Store now. You can use 2 accounts for one purchase meaning you can go half and half with a friend and with brand new titles coming out digitally on the day of release, it's a great era to be a gamer in. When I'm paying $30 for The Last Of Us on the day of release, I don't care that I can't trade it in. I'm already winning out. Then you look at the PS Plus option that gives you huge discounts, ridiculously cheap games and sometimes even free games, and these aren't just indie games they're giving away for pretty much nothing. Steam and Amazon also gives away PC games for practically nothing. Bioshock 1 and 2 Collection on PC is like $5. To own the disc of it on Ps3 will cost you $25. As a console gamer, I dished out the $25 but that's a pretty sweet deal for PC. The day of digital is indeed upon us. I do agree though with KDdidIt that only having the option of digital is not good for the consumer. Like the Mass Effect trilogy for example. I bought the trilogy on disc because it's my favorite games and I wanted the discs and the cool N7 case. The case is cool and I like it, fuck you.

If you fry your HD can you re-download?
what if the publisher goes out of business? You're fucked?
I don't know if I like that.

You're able to redownload.
If the publisher goes out of business the game will be stored in the cloud for download.
You are able to take your games anywhere.

We'll see how many pre-orders switch because of this.

Pretty smart move, I'm glad they saw the poor messaging that was going on, the backlash, what Sony did and changed their policy.

Good move.

I think they just saved their console. Xbox could of very well been off of the market in a few years if they stayed the route they were going. A poll conducted on amazon.com's facebook page showed that only 1 out of every 17 people voted that they'd buy the Xbox One over the Ps4. We'll see if Xbox decides to drop their price when the console comes out but even if they choose to stay at $500, this is a smart move by Xbox to cut out these restrictions. Still makes no sense as to why they needed to publicly humiliate themselves before deciding to do the right thing.

And that sucks, I actually wanted to see how they would roll it out. No more discs and such.

That will have to wait now.

And what happens to instant game switching and stuff? Is that gone too?
