I'm trying to put the little guy down, and bottle rockets are flying in my neighborhood. It's a beautiful evening, so the windows are open. I hope one of these cheap, Chinese fireworks blows up right in your face.

Yeah, the 3 month old isn't doing well sleeping. I expect it on the 4th. Fuck off for doing it on the 3rd.

I understand it on the fourth. It's the big truck, or pimped out coup fucks that go from June 25th to July 15th that make me want to be the old guy calling the cops.

It will get better. My older son was a terrible sleeper for the first 15-18 months. Now, he is almost three, and he sleeps through anything.

it starts up roughly a week before today... maybe even 10 days. the blackhawks stanley cup win was met with a bunch of explosions, for example.... and shit, in proper urban chicago it sounded like tonight exactly one week ago....

but yeah, by and large i'm not much of a fan of the whole "it sounds like i live in a warzone" aural aesthetic. it's not because when i was a kid there was one july 4th where i was running down a street towards a playground and some sort of a cherry bomb blew up right in my face (i was able to hit the brakes, there was a big ol ball of fire right there tho) --- it's just like, shit, if you have to even stop and wonder "is someone systematically executing approximately 15 people right now, or are they just drunk and visceral?" then it's not an ideal situation.

but then again, this is humanity..... our precious metals are shiny, and people think diamonds are hugely valuable, so midaswell get drunk and be all "WOW EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yes, it gets worse on the 4th, but in areas where people are not going to get caught they will set off fireworks any chance they get.

I despise these amateur fireworks. Annoying and stupid. Sets every goddamn dog in the neighborhood barking too.

I don't understand why people are so fascinated with lighting shit and seeing some lights and/or hearing a BOOM!

Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday. I just don't get why people get so excited by an M-80.

Do they still have the little parade at Sauganash Park? In 1972 my mom bought me a tank top with a red, white, and blue picture of the Liberty Bell on it. All week I planned to wear it to the parade. But on the 4th that year, it was really cold and rainy. I mean, it was in the 50s or something. I was quite disappointed. But my mom came up with a plain white sweatshirt for me to wear under the tank top and I went anyway. I didn't get to ride on the fire engine but it was still a great day to be an American.

the M-320. Celebrate the independence of your nation by blowing up a small part of it.

One of the things I like about living down here is very few amateurs do fireworks unless you live out in the country where no one else will be bothered. I think in the last week I have maybe heard 3 fireworks go off in our neighborhood. And our town had an amazing fireworks show they put on last night, lasted a solid 30 mins and was one of the best shows I have seen. I do not miss the days of living up there and having it sound like a warzone and then having to clean up all the crap that ends up in your yard the next day
