WILDWOOD -- A New Jersey beach town has yet to write a ticket for anyone violating its saggy pants ordinance, which took effect over the July Fourth holiday weekend.

The rule prohibits anyone on the Wildwood boardwalk from wearing shorts, swimsuits, pants or skirts more than 3 inches below the waist.

The measure also requires people to wear foot protection at all times and shirts between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m..

Seventeen-year-old Raphael Caetano, who moved to the U.S. from Brazil, tells The Press of Atlantic City he was a little surprised by the ordinance. He says in America, you do whatever you want.

But Kristina Dunleavy of Westchester, N.Y., says the ordinance is fantastic because she doesn't believe low-hanging pants are appropriate.

Fines start at $25.

Yeah, they are going to lose this when challenged in court, no way in hell can you force someone to wear a shirt after 8 pm. I kinda like the pants rule, people look ridiculous with their ass sticking out of their pants..nobody wanna see that.

Seriously, though, this law is bullshit. Worry about some real crimes, for fuck sakes. Who is going to enforce the 3" law? It's completely subjective. They gonna start measuring?

Oh I am, this law is unconstitutional. Will never stick ,This is as bad as refusal to serve someone with tattoos all over their body.

Couldn't a proprietor do that though? We reserve the right to refuse anyone?

As long as you cover the agreed-upon definition of genatalia established by our Founding Fathers at Plymouth Rock, I don't give a shit where your belt loops fall.

I don't think so, if you got away with that refusal than someone else could refuse fatties. Someone else could refuse handouts or retarded people ...slippery slope.

Officer Fife will measure by holding 10 dimes together.

I'm glad to see that catching on.

Save for the fact that "Raphael Caetano" is from Brazil and not Lyndhurst, this is the most New Jersey sentence of all time.

What if a city were to pass an ordinance banning trucker hats, jorts, and sleeveless Sturgis Rally t-shirts?

Honestly, passing laws about how people dress is stupid.
Requiring clothing is not.

There are stupid trends in clothing across all cultures

Only one seems to conjure up such hateful feelings

What a waste of hate!

And aesthetically, I find obese people to be a lot worse.

I read something about how the punks & thugs wear their pants below their ass so people can see the brand of boxers that they are wearing.
When you think your underwear is a status symbol its probably time to reevaluate yourself & your priorities.

It comes from prison where lowered pants mean "available ass"

Its definitely stupid, just not hateworthy
