ABCNews.com reports: Hall of Famer and former Bears running back George McAfee died in an Atlanta assisted-living facility in 2009 when, after having developed dementia, he wandered unsupervised into a cleaning room and drank from a bottle of industrial-strength detergent.

The caustic chemical burned McAfee's lips, esophagus and lungs and he died a short time later in a hospital, according to his family, which settled with the company that ran the facility

This just happened.

No dummy, the settlement with the assisted living company just happened, as well as the PBS documentary.

Well the settlement nor the documentary were the subject of the headline nor the first paragraph of the story, his death was. The settlement was basically the last thing they mentioned and I don't think the trib article mentioned the documentary at all.
So instead of douching them for a 4 year old story how about for terrible writing and editing?

The company tried to scrub their record clean of this story.

Even after all these years it still chokes me up.

Shit reporting is shit reporting. Apparently creating a readable story isn't party of "journalism" - such as it is - anymore. Seconded. (would've been much more entertaining if McAfee had died from some unknown virus .... just sayin')

Or is this the first they're reporting on it? And yes, it is bad writing and editing, regardless.
