I think it is a town in Illinois and thus a HS as well? and Tanner Roark pitched for them in 2005,6,7? Last night he pitched for the Nationals as he was called up earlier in the week. Must have been 40-50 people there to cheer him on, which I have no issue with, but the homemade ROARK Jersey are only outdone by the 30+ year olds wearing Purple Wlmington Jerseys, banners, bandanas, etc. Wont even discuss the fact the guy gave up a 5 run lead, with 4 straight hits and why the manager left him in, I have no idea, unless he did so because he knew the guy had 50 people there? Kinda sad But with the exception of the 1 or 2 years after High School, if you show up anywhere sporting the colors of your HS and flying the school flag, you have obtained DB status |

By Christmas break my freshman year in college couldn't have given less of a fuck about sporting HS colors etc. |

I wouldn't say I sport the colors but I do have some Ignatius wear. Bigfan, most of them were probably family and they were celebrating a guy reaching his goal. It's not like there is some Wilmington army showing up to every game for the guy. When Dr. Ken shows up to Wrigley in his Teutopolis Corn Jerkers shirt to cheer on his kin when he makes the show I hope you are a little more understanding. Dbag anyone who viewed this thread and didn't make a Tattoo joke for Roark |

Leave them good ol boys alone. Wilmington is small as shit, down south and in the middle of nowhere and high school is all they've got. I think my high school beat the shit out of them to win the football championship back in the 90's. There is some reason I have heard of the place before and I think that is it. This is a good primer to the 2013 IHSA football season....haters!!!! |

Yeah, I don't get the whole you can't go and watch your local high school team, you can't do this, you can't do that. I didn't know there were written rules on who and what you can cheer for and when the time you can cheer for them runs out. |

I don't have the design skills to make a sweet flow chart (not with a quick turnaround, at least...), but the only decisions that should lead to caring about high school sports are "do you have a child on the team" and "do you have a friend on the team." If you don't, then you don't need to worry about the hobbies of 16-year-olds. Also, if you can answer in the affirmative to both questions, there are probably some long discussions that have to happen about life and where it's taken you. |

What if you have a cousin or nephew on the team? I'm originally from a small town. Granted our football team was awful, but part of me would consider heading downstate if they ever were to be in the state championship. Hell, I bet most of the town would be there. |

In small communities, typically the only live sporting events that can be viewed easily are High School sports. It's a rallying point for the community and a place where the town goes to be together and enjoy the events. Living in a larger city, it does not have the same impact and is usually harder to understand since there are so many other options for the community's entertainment. But, in smaller communities, it is not out of the ordinary for adults to attend high school football games their entire lives for entertainment. |

It's weird to some (Dan Berstein argument), but for small, rural towns, that's their way of life. That's what you do on a Friday night. I don't see anything wrong with that. |
