Seriously, how much OCD do you have to have to step into an elevator, watch me (or anyone) press the floor number, and then reach over and press the same number again? Same goes for the elevator call button. This isn't a rare occurrence either, happens all the time. |

They are letting you know which floor they are going to. That way, if the elevator is full of people, everyone knows who has to get out. |

yeah this one pisses me off too. you just watched me hit the call button. The elevator will get here. You pressing the button again is not going to make it go any faster. Idiots. |

Elacceleration: The mistaken belief that the more times one presses an elevator call button, the faster the elevator will arrive. |

This is a great nomination and why this section is the greatest section on the board. Well done. |

if you reverse the doors closing (by being a douche and jumping on late) pushing the same button again tells the elevator you're ready to take off again. Folks who interrupt closing elevator doors to get on to an already occupied elevator are even more d-bag worthy. Let that one go and catch another. Douchebags act like it's the last chopper out of Saigon and they just had to make it on or they'd be stuck downstairs forever. |

There are much bigger elevator issues: 1) Bad neck hair that I have to stare at. 2) Fat women in short skirts. 3) People pushing buttons for floors that no one needs. 4) Floor buttons that do not light up. 6) Loud phone talkers in the elevator. 7) People who smell like cigarette smoke. 8 ) Fat people with fat laden food in their hands. The fat get fatter. 9) People asking you if it's going up, when the arrow outside is pointed down. 10) People who need to get a hotel room. |

You've obviously never been to the Daley Center I think the people who push the open and close buttons are the douchebags. They have as much affect on the doors as the button on the street light has in changing the light to "walk." |

Meh. What's worse is when they push the wrong floor, then there floor and both come before your destination. |

I previously nominated the new era "Guy who finishes his text before he exits the elevator" |

There is like a 0.0000001% chance this will make the doors close faster. Still worth trying. |

I run over people who try to board the elevator when I'm trying to get off. |

I've done this in situations--usually involving a gaggle of tourists who find elevator rides a novelty and a game of "let's see how many overweight Cornhuskers we can get on an elevator"--where there are too damn many people in the elevator. I GFTO, as a crowded elevator is no place for an agoraphobe. Sometimes I'll stop and salute the tourists as the doors close: |

rogers park bryan wrote: I previously nominated the new era "Guy who finishes his text before he exits the elevator" I missed that nomination, fucking yes. At least a few times I week I end standing outside an elevator waiting to get on while some dbag stands in the corner of the elevator, staring intently at and thumbing away at his iphone. Tempted to get in, push the buttons to close the door real quick and then stand in the guy's way so he can't get out and make him go all the way back up. |

NSJ wrote: I run over people who try to board the elevator when I'm trying to get off. If I'm alone or with only a few, I like to move right to the doors so when they open, the "quick-boarders" are taken aback that I am so close (or maybe it is my ogre-like appearance) I can exit first, as designed. |

When I'm hungover, I walking out of the elevator if more than 4 people are on. I cant handle all that stopping and starting. I think 'guy who pukes in crowded elevator' is worse than exiting a full elevator. |

If you hold a floor button or the door close button, the doors will close faster than they would otherwise. Pushing the button does not let the elevator know you are on any more than the motion sensor at calf level does. If you have 5 or less floors, take the stairs...I do everyday. |
