The roads are terrible there. The worst stretch is Highlake Avenue, from Winfield Rd to just past the hospital.

Just like a homeless guy who hangs out at middle schools.

The Summit detour past the school works well to get to CDH. Do not follow the detour signs during rush hour. Brutal.

Winfield Rd is now open. I'm not sure why it took nearly 4 months to redo a 2 lane bridge that is literally 10 feet long.

That area always floods in a storm. They probably did something to correct that, as they are doing on Main St. in Wheaton.

Me and two friends could have got the job done on a Saturday afternoon.

176 between Darrell and 12 has been under construction for almost 18 months. I cannot imagine what the hell they're doing.
And 176 and 31? A whopping 6 months so far and still truckin.

Does this mean that you, Douchebag, and I are going to go to John's for some cold ones?

My brother-and-law and I looked at opening a bakery/cafe in Winfield maybe 5 or 6 years ago where Pepper Jack's is now. Metra stop/near hospital/near DuPage government center should all be a can't miss for a good commuter/young professional/mommy-based business. That town's politics are Hatfields/McCoys crazy, and appear to have been for many years. There's a reason Starbucks won't park their deep pockets next to a Western Suburbs train station.

Very true. This town is full of idiots. There actually is a bakery next to Pepper Jacks now. Place is awful. Bad sweets served by bad people. The village gave those people a $50,000 TIF grant, and I'm pretty sure those people might have spent only about $10,000 on the business, and are just going to close soon, and walk away with the rest. The bakery has like two small display cases, and that's it.

Yeah, I think it's called Vanilla Sky or something. Another bakery that keeps banker's hour. I've never understood that. Why go through the trouble of opening a bakery, and then operate between like 10a to 4p Tuesday through Saturday? I always assume those are bored housewife vanity businesses and specialize in unspecatcular product to begin with.

Yeah, it's Vanilla Sugar Bakery. You hit the nail on the head with all the problems I have with this place. Terrible hours, and they are leaving so much money on the table by not being open early to sell stuff to the hundreds of Metra commuters every morning. The woman who runs it is very cold, and I don't think she has ever smiled once in her life. The couple times I tried going there, she didnt even have most of her product out, and said I would have to wait about 15 minutes. I never came back after that. This happened twice.

There's a lot of Mini Daley's in small town politics.

There are some exceptions to the Starbucks statement. Hinsdale is one. I'm sure the one in Elmhurst would rather be where Fannie Mae was/is.

And sometime soon Chus on the cocktail. I'll have my son with me. My wife has been out of town all week until tonight. Looking forward to a family dinner Monday night.

I had to make a beer run last night, and didn't want to venture out far. I decided to go to the liqour store in downtown Winfield. I hadn't been there in over a year probably because it was the dirtiest place I think I've ever been in. I had bought multiple items there that were bad, and I had just given up ever buying from there again. But I was lazy last night, so I caved.

I have to say that the place is much better now. I think someone drove through the front window earlier this year, so much of the store has been remodeled. The guy has a bunch of new coolers that actually seem to be in working order, and his product seems to be much better now too. 2 thumbs up.

But Winfield still blows.

I might be making a trek out there later tonight to catch some west coast Bulls.

Was NSJ there? If it was Winfield Food & Liquor on Beecher, they use our lights.
