I was never there Thanksgiving weekend and I sure wouldn't have treked in anticipation of that shitshow.

Somehow the conversation about this school and why top recruits dont attend always ends up with this quote

'yeah, but its a good engineering school"

This is a weak nomination. Who would travel the 2 hours from Turkey weekend? I never went to an IU/Purdue one either. For example, Ann Arbor is 45 tops for most Michiganders.

They had 109,000 at the Big house today, I assume some students went.

I see more fans at meaningless HS football games in Southern illinois with towns of 500!

Yeah, this game sucked. I don't get your point. The fans hate this team.

By the way, this game was horrible from officiating to coaching.

Why the fuck is Fitz challenging a 1 yard gain on 1st down early in the 3rd? He should have lost it but the refs bailed him. They gave NU the same call on a TD later.

Fitz isn't calling TO at the end of the 1st half with Illinois on their own 5. But that stupidity was trumped by UofI running hurry up. Still cost NU :20. Then NU gets it to the 15 with :12 left and there is a "clock error" and suddenly there is only :02 left!?! ...and nobody even questioned it!

So much other crap, too. Horrible.

The pictures -- endzone shots at halftime -- are deceiving. Look at the east side of soldier field at halftime. You would say there is no one there too?

Attendance was 37,058. Nearly 2/3 capacity for Thanksgiving weekend, last game of the season, two bad teams -- does not seem unsual, at least to me.

Yeah, I'm surprised there were as many as there were. My wife actually said to me as I was watching yesterday, "I'd go to an Illinois game with you if you wanted." I asked her if she was crazy. I'd drive down there to see hoops, but I'm not sitting in the cold to watch the average Illini football team. Hell, they were good when I was down there and I rarely went. The last Illini game I went to was a couple years ago against Missouri in St. Louis. That game sucked too.

The last football game I attended in Champaign was the Bears / Lions game, the one Detroit opted not to receive the OT kickoff.

The champaign marathon finishes on the stadium field. I have done that three times. It is kind of cool seeing yourself on the jumbotron as you finish.

I don't think I attended more than two football games as a student. But I had season tickets one year for basketball. And I was not much of a b-ball fan. But it was the thing to do.

All great memories!

I was there. Not only did I watch the Lions piss away a ten point, fourth quarter lead, it took six hours to drive back, due to the snowstorm.

So during halftime, Illini fans sit in a symetrical perfect shape? With a yellow rope around them?

dont think so

You're comparing the The Game to Illini/Northwestern? C'mon. When I went to Michigan/Buckeys 3 years ago in Ann Arbor a lot of the students went back home. There's a huge difference between 30/45 minutes and 2/2.5 hours. And like Dr. Ken said, the team is hated. On top of this, we're talking about a basketball school!

This should be a SHOUTOUT to the students for not supporting that embarrassment of a head coach. He's a tool.

This still cracked me up. I know nobody cares about this game so it's nothing but the clock didn't even say :02, it just said : 2. Seems like the 1 in 12 just disappeared so everybody thought there was only 2 seconds left.

I wonder if when they started the clock if the horn even blew or if it did 10 seconds after it reached single zero.

It looks to me that is sectioned off for a group and there is some reason they are all sitting there at half time. Band geeks' families? Champaign County Boy's Club?

All I can tell you is I watched part of the first half. I did not notice the north end zone that empty.

With 1/3 of the place open, maybe by halftime many moved to the sideline seats?

Regardless, those pictures do not accurately represent the attendance of yesterday's game.

They're grouped together to do the halftime card show.

By most that means more than 50% and I'd wager that only like 10 of us care enough to see one and one really is more than enough so I'd bet that you've been to more than everyone except Dr. Ken who is a masochist.

Yeah, I've been to two Northwestern games, so I would say I attended more NU games than most people here.

I wouldn't attend many Illini games either as a student if they gave me those garbage seats.

These games right after Thanksgiving are always going to lose out on a lot of students. You'd basically have to go back on Friday night unless you live less than an hour away.

The student section at the Wisconsin game had a large amount of empty seats.

I'm going to start a shoutout thread for the 14,000 Sox fans that show up for a Tuesday night game in April when its 45 degrees.

Hopefully they had enough students to do the famous "Eat Shit, Fuck You" chant!

I've been saying this for a while now. They moved the students farther away and gave them a terrible angle to the field after renovating the place. It made no sense at all. And why is the front row 20- 30 feet in the air?

Sucks for the students there now but it was great getting seats at the 35-yard line for $6 back in the day.

Guess you need to sell those prime seats these days to pay for all the big-time recruits we're getting now.
