Listen, overweight lady who always acts like you're doing me a favor by ringing up my items, you guys are never by the register. You often finish conversations with co workers before even looking at the line of 6 people waiting.

So with that history, how could I possibly know that you were going "self checkout only"? Of course I thought it was just your normal lazy nature that had you standing around as 3 of us waited for a cashier to appear from somewhere.

You are what's wrong with this country

Not to even get into the backwards idea of self checkout only. Im not as down on self checkout as some. I think it serves a purpose. But when its self checkout only, you are getting dangerously close to making yourself an unneeded middle man. If you want people to stop going to convenient stores in favor of buying bulk or maybe just finding a store that does some work, keep it up. You'll get there eventually.

the people at the grocery store that do like 200$ worth of stuff at a self-checkout are just insane

Not all of them have self check-out.

Most of the ones that do aren't as stupid as the one Bryan is talking about.

No. I mean I dont think so.

Its not a permanent thing...that I know of.

I dont think it should ever be "100% self checkout"

The one in Ogilve Station on Madison is self-checkout only all day. The only times they will ring someone up at the register is if you are buying booze or smokes.

The CVS around the corner has really bad problems with customer service like the ones you suggest. About a third of the time I go in there I have to go find a worker to ring me up. They are almost never at the register, and there's been plenty of times I've walked in there and there's 3-4 people standing in line looking around with no worker in sight.

Meijer is self-checkout only after a certain time (let's call it 11pm). I got used to it. I never had to ring up $200 worth...but sometimes it is a lot.

My main issue is how bitchy she was about it. Like I should have known.

There were no signs and like I said, they frequently just stand around not by their assigned register so I really couldnt have known.

And its 830 am on a work day in downtown Chicago. Not exactly down time

Ask to speak to the manager and tell them that you will be reporting their performance to corporate.

Problem solved.

Happens at WalMart all of the time - lines 10 people deep, majority of aisles CLOSED, and lazy fucks walking around twiddling their thumbs and twirling their nametags. JUMP BEHIND A REGISTER AND BE SOMEBODY, ASSHOLE!

I like it. Although, as is written here, it seems to be a corporate choice to provide bad service and not just the store.

Im sure Id get some coupons though

You came into my building today? If I had known, I would've met you down there.

Is that the one at Golf and Walnut? I hated that one when I lived in Hoffman Estates.

The problem is the thing doesn't work very well. You put something in the bag and then it tells you to put the item in the bag. And then you punch the fucking screen and break your hand like Iron Mike.

You have to make sure the machine can weigh it. If you put it in the bag, make sure it goes all the way to the bottom and touches the machine. It's not complicated.

Supported. CVS is an odd place. The CVS "Roll Out" for Self Checkout has been horrible. I walked into two separate CVS locations and literally didn't notice the things existed. It took the Clark/Halsted CVS probably 9 months to get regular assistance from employees for self checkout. They do have to have a register with 1 teller to sell smokes, but the guy/girl would just sit there and look like "sucks to be you dude". Whoever was in charge of internal marketing for this change should have been fired. When Jewels/Dominicks moved to a few self check out lanes they promoted the friggin idea. "Here, try this and we are here to help." It still could be a cluster, but at least it wasn't an openly hostile experience.

I have no idea how CVS makes money. For most stores that I have been in, even with the ridiculous price mark up. they don't have the traffic/purchases to warrant staying in business. The exception might be the pharmacy portion which I don't understand.

I just went to the CVS in Ogilve Station. As I was saying before, everything there is self-check out all the time. There was some a douch-ey businessman who was pissed because he had to use self checkout. When he was finished, and the machine gives the "Thank you for shopping at CVS spiel", he said "You're Welcome. I fucking love robots!!"

If I'm checking myself out, you best believe I'm talking something for free.

I don't check and/or bag my own groceries when that service is already incorporated in the price. It's like paying a housekeeper and then doing the work yourself while she watches TV.

The weird thing about CVS is that they all seem to be exactly the same. You enter a Walgreens or Jewels & they're all a little different from each other. Yet, every CVS has the same vibe, way too similar looks. Even if they're different, they're the same. Kind of like the Twilight Zone. Could there be just one CVS, & everytime you walk through the door, you're going through a portal to the one CVS?

Even the old Oscos that were converted to CVS had to undergo an "upgrade" to achieve the uniform look.

I think every Walgreen's looks identical...and I think every CVS looks like every Walgreen's.

Each Walgreeens is a cookie cutter building with the most minimal difference as possible.

There is a CVS in an old Osco where Higgins and Foster intersect and another a block away at Nagle and Foster, where an old banquet hall used to be. You can see the Nagle CVS from inside the Higgins CVS. Kind of pokes a hole in the Colonel's otherwise very intriguing theory.

I believe every CVS downtown was once an Osco (as well as the one in Bridgeport). None of them seem like the old Osco. Everything was redone, from aisle to shelves. It's kind of like a Stepford Wives kind of thing. Shit, even every Target & Wal-Mart has it's own vibe, & you can't get any more generic than that.

Wrong, boy-o. Maybe in the oasis of civilization that is Schaumburg, but here in the nitty-gritty city, CVS & Walgreens are very different. In fact, each Walgreens is different. Neighborhood Walgreens are usually "hood", no matter what neighborhood they're in. Each Walgreens in the Loop even has it's own personality. The one on Randolph & State is modern & bougie. The one on Washington seems like a little market. & the one on Adams is different than both of them.

Where is the Walgreen's? The southeast corner where that hot dog stand used to be?

I went out of my way back to the Walgreens at Higgins and Roselle when I was going to Poplar Creek Bowl just to avoid that one a couple of weeks ago. The fiancee didn't understand why...
