I know everybody knows it's bad. I just want to actually put it in perspective at how bad this collapse was.

If the Lions beat the Vikings next week they will have gone 5-1 in the division. The winner of this division might have only 8 wins (If the Packers beat the Bears they will be 8-7-1).

Culter missed 5 games. Rodgers missed 7 games. Both the Packers and Bears have also had lots of other injuries to key players. Way more than the Lions.

With this, the Lions still managed to be eliminated before the last game of the season after having a 2.5 game lead just 6 weeks ago!!!!

People often talk about the greatest collaplses in baseball. This is absolutely the worst collapse in the History of the NFL. I don't think it will ever be beat if you just consider all of the factors in this one.

Best Record: 6-0

Final Record: 9-7

There seems to be a clear trend emerging where many of the teams on this list feature coaches that are remembered as failures.

Mike Tice does little to debunk that theory as his 2003 Minnesota Vikings started the season 6-0 and featured one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

WR Randy Moss would catch 17 touchdown passes that season, one of his best with Minnesota. The problem was that the rest of the team forgot how to win.

Minnesota dropped its final four games that season, including a loss to the 4-11 Cardinals in Week 17 that cost Minnesota a wild-card berth.

The Bears collapse last year is up there after going 7-1. But this Lions one is the worst.

For the love of God, the Lions beat the Bears twice and are eliminated for the last game while the Bears play for the division.

I seem to remember an 80s Jets team that began 8-0 and finished 8-8. Now that is a collapse.

It's not just the lead blown or amount of losses in a row that I'm talking about. It's the other factors that I mentioned. Like how 8 wins might win this thing and the injuries to the Lions competition. That's what makes it so special. Plus the teams the Lions lost to in these last six games. Including the Giants and Bucs at home!!!!

Going possibly 5 and 1 in a division and losing that division before the last week is crazy

Thank you. That's why I wanted to emphasis that point. It really is shocking and funny as hell. Especially when 9 wins could have won this thing.

Coach Swartz:

Lions owner: You're fired.

Coach Swartz: Yeah. I know. I already packed up my stuff in my car. Bye.

there's a chance the saints could miss the playoffs and just a week ago they had a hold on the #2 seed. how's that for a collapse? or should just be a wake up call to one of the most arrogant head coaches in the league.
