Post subject:  New Area Code

I just got Elaine Benes'd

Since US Cellular sold out to Sprint, I was forced to get a new cell provider for the first time in 10 years. I have the option to transfer my old number over but I would need my account number I didn't have it with me and I just decided to go with a new one. (Had a good 11 year run with my old number)

Then after the deal was done and I paid for the phone and the service guy says to his co worker

Guy: hey call the phone to make sure it works 63...

Me: WHOA....What the fuck? (And yes I swore. These were men and we'd already been swearing up a storm)

630????

Guy: that's why I asked you if you wanted to keep your old number

Me: yeah well I didn't mind getting a new number but if its going to be a different area code from the one that I live in ... you might want to mention that.

They claim this can still be fixed if I go back up there with my account number and we can switch it to my old number but I saw their eyes!!! And they were filled with doubt!!!

I am NOT a 630er god damnit.

And why are we running out of fuckin phone numbers anyway? Because all these assholes we live amongst get a new phone every week don't pay the bill the numbers gone forever?

Going back up there now to try and amend this atrocity

To be continued....

My friend used to drive around with just the receiver & talk into it to impress the chicks he had a phone in his car.

Ive had the same cell number since I got my phone almost 14 years ago. My provider has been bought out to or three times but never actually changed companies. AT&T for now.

I heard you literally made an omelet this morning. Frankly that's impressive. Especially with only a microwave and toaster oven

It's not a new number, it's a changed number.

I used to have a landline that ended in 6969. Guy at At&T said I sounded like a guy who could put that number to good use.

I'll have this vest guy call your real number. You just, uh, give it to me. And that way, I'll have it.

i used Office Depot the other day to print/laminate some things for work...paid online to pickup using my Paypal account...in any case i didn't realize i still had my old home phone number on Paypal since i don't use it often. i disconnected it like 3 years ago, since no one really has a home phone

anyways, the woman there was like oh we tried to call you about something but it was the wrong #
she showed me the # and i said oh, that's my old home phone it's been disconnected for a few years now
she said no, someone actually answered and said it was the wrong number

so apparently they do reuse some numbers, who knows what the criteria is

I remember when being called a 708er was an insult. 708 to 630 is nothing. At least they didn't foist on you one of those new prefixes like 331, 872 or 779.
