You are the Raiders of basketball. You fire a coach after 50 games even though you are only in 9th place. You've had about 10 coaches in 5 years.

And they are on a two game winning streak.

I was very confused this morning, watching the replay of the game last night on NBA TV and seeing in the bottom left that he had gotten canned...Pistons were winning that game the whole time by a comfortable margin from what I saw...not sure how you decide that was going to be the game you would fire him after.

I believe in this league you are supposed to win a championship or get the #1 overall pick. Anything in between and you are doing it wrong.......I think.

Maybe he didn't win by enough. They have a crappy roster too.

9th place in this eastern conference isn't anything to feel good about.

True. That's not a great team though. Firing a guy after his first 50 game is silly

Arbitrary coach-cannings are par for the course for any team that employs josh smith.

dumars needs to be on the hot seat, if he isn't already. i think the last time they were a serious team was sometime around 2008 or 2009. nothing going on since, except for the ben gordon and charlie villanueva free agency bonanza

Every since he chose Darko over Carmelo he's been bad. That pick alone may have cost them another title.

There has to be more to this story. You don't just get canned in the middle of your first season for no reason at all.

I thought Detroit would be better. Monroe and Drummond inside is pretty formidable. Smith plays like an idiot and Brandon Jennings has underachieved in his career, but he's played well this season. With that group, I wouldn't expect them to be 8 games under in a bad conference. Cheeks may have been incompetent, etc, but it also shows how badly run the Pistons are. How many coaches does Joe Dumars get? His next one will be his 9th.

For some reason I thought he was a coach killer. I just checked and it turns out he was drafted when Woodson was hired as coach, meaning before smith left for the Pistons, Woodson was the only coach he knew. That also means I'm a dumbass, and I'll just see myself out right now.

i'd say i feel sorry for him, but he knew what he was getting into...Jennings and Smith on the floor together was/is a recipe for disaster

The Pistons collapsed after their long time owner Bill Davidson died in 2009. Davidson's a counter
example to the Ford family or the McCaskeys or Culverhouse or the Kings/Clippers/Redskins owners.
Winning multiple NBA titles was nothing for Davidson--who also won
a Stanley cup in 2004 as an owner.

They probably already made the decision and were afraid of a winning streak messing with that plan
