Cookie Cutter Houses is the only thing on that list that I truly think is a detriment. Just looks so stupid.

People should live where they want to live. I really have no beef with suburbs. But most of my friends who brag about how they have "more house" than I do, just have an extra bedroom that they fill with a lot of crap. Suburbs only exist because of the cities they sprung up around. Really, they're a creation of the automobile. So it's no surprise that their denizens are so obsessed with parking.

The suburbs are great. I have always wanted my children to be afraid of people of color and tall buildings.

Oh no, how can you live in a place where the siding and roof colors are similar until people start renovating and replacing things!

Who does it bother? I'm asking. I'd like to talk to someone that actually is bothered by the fact that one house looks like another house. I'd like to know why.

I prefer the houses to look different. Aesthetically it looks better and feels less like middle class dorms or army quarters.

Not so much that they are all the same, so are the city ones, but they are cheaply built. Flimsy materials. wall-to-wall carpeting emits cancer causing fumes. that sort of thing. Give me bricks, wood, and plaster. Can't go wrong with that.

My grandma lived in Norridge right off of Cumberland and Foster. That whole neighborhood each house was pretty much identical to the next.

Don't you think that the city has a higher % of single people & when they get married & want to have kids & raise a family they move to the suburbs for better schools, a bigger & newer more affordable house with a backyard, lower taxes, less traffic, etc? My 27 year old Son works in the loop & is moving to the city in August with his Girlfriend. When they get married they are going to the suburbs.
I always said that if I was a single guy, I would sell my car & live in the city.

Sure there are exceptions. It's a bigger problem in the suburbs if that sort of thing bothers you.

Neighborhood? The City of Chicago is my neighborhood. I only mean that in a semi-flippant way. The population between the four major streets that surround my house is majority white. Six blocks in any direction changes that.

I live next door to people of color if that is some kind of badge of honor. Come to think of it, my block is a festival of nations of race, age and religion. I had never really thought about it until you brought this up.

Location really isn't that important in itself. The important thing is to participate in the different. I find the suburbs are an insulation from the different. Sure my NWI relatives can enjoy everything the city has to offer...but they don't...and neither do their friends and neighbors.

What do you mean? There has been a lot of suburbs bashing lately. I'm sorry I made a positive thread about it.

Yeah, the segregation just is a little more jammed packed because of population density.
