"I believe people will come to the Ohio State-Michigan game even if you could take the kids out of the student body." Isn't he admitting that football players are employees rather than students? And if he's right (he may be), why not kill athletic scholarships and just let students play of Saturdays? Oh, but he likes his fat fuckin' paycheck too much for that! |

No, he's not admitting that. That rivalry has four generations of followers. Students would not be needed to fill up either venue. |

I think that's exactly what he's saying. "...Even if you take kids out of the student body" suggests that the current players are not members of the student body, does it not? |

I thought it was more having the ability to price the student sections out of the stadiums, which makes him a douchebag in another sense. If the players are students, they should be playing for their fellow students, not old men. |

In fact, the way the Sun-Times quoted him was this: "I believe people will come to the Ohio State-Michigan game even if you could take the kids out of the student body [to play]." |

Well, that's the way they quoted it. If all he said was that quote without those last two words, he has an out. But yeah, still a DB. |

If that was the context, then yes he is a douchebag. Pierre is not not though. |

I would think the school chooses who sits where? and if the Students get screwed in the name of money, this would be the landmark time to WALK OUT....before a Mich -Ohio St game... the players could say they are just supporting the students, just like the kids that wash the uniforms, the band, the vending and I am assuming 1000's of other students that help put on a game. This is why you have an elected student body and President. Think about this...Friday at 5 PM before a Sat Noon Mich game, a letter is given to the President of the University that a new student section be developed that costs $1 per seat and can hold 10,000 students, etc etc etc. If an agreement is not reached this evening, the following students will not partake in their Saturday activities. 1. Captain of OSU football on behalf of the team 2. Cheerleaders 3. Band 4. Managers 5. Stadium workers. Additionally, a protest has been organized to be held behind the ESPN GAMEDAY setup This would be FUN! and REAL! I know when I was Arizona, we each got 1 season ticket for $1 game and sat center court. We needed to show a student Id with our ticket when we entered. It showed what Section you sat in, no assigned seat, just assigned section. I have heard people say that walking out right before a final four or a national championship game is the only leverage they have. Well, its not as big, but this would be awesome. |

The face value of student tickets doesn't matter. They get the students by including the costs in "fees". Students probably are paying as much as almost any other regular seat at most schools. |

Which conveniently went up the same time they announced plans for renovating the baseball stadium. http://thesouthern.com/sports/college/s ... 963f4.html |

He's admitting that they aren't normal students, but that is so obvious that no one would argue it. That's why student-athlete exists. He's talked about it before, but I think he sees a plausible future where the Big Ten doesn't award athletic scholarships. This would go with that thinking.Joe Orr Road Rod wrote: And if he's right (he may be), why not kill athletic scholarships and just let students play of Saturdays? Oh, but he likes his fat fuckin' paycheck too much for that! I could see this happening depending on how the whole "pay the players" thing plays out.
