I'm one of the biggest Microsoft apologists there are, so the fact that I'm DB'ing them should tell you how pissed I am about this.

About a month ago, I came home one day and tried turning on my One using the voice command. Nothing happened. Turn on the Xbox and I get a "Kinect unplugged" message. I talk to support and they say to send the Kinect in (getting just this info seemed like a chore, since one person said the console first, then the Kinect).

I was given an estimated date of completion of 3/4/14, which seemed a bit lengthy, but I figured it was the "underpromise/overdeliver" mentality, since the only time I had dealt with the Microsoft service center prior to this, they turned my 360 around in under two weeks.

Well, yesterday I noticed the status on my Kinect still said "The service center is processing your order". I contacted support via chat and the person assured me that the package was already on it's way and the problem was simply they didn't get a tracking number so they had no way of knowing where it was (this is hilarious because they were adamant that I needed to get a tracking number when I sent it to them, but I digress).

So I check my email this morning and there is a message from Xbox Support saying there was a delay to the repair process and the Kinect will not ship until 3/7/14. I get back on with chat support today and they tell me the problem was that the service center is experiencing a delay (wouldn't tell me what). I asked why I was told the package already shipped but the person just kept going back to the "there was a delay" bullshit.

IE is fine. I'll concede there are better options but I'd argue they are marginally better and IE is already on my system...so since I can't remove it, I figure I'll use it.

No way.

No, it's not fine, and I'm pretty involved in Microsoft technology. The newest one is borderline acceptable, but that doesn't last for long.

Please, stop using it. There are many free options.

I use it every day at work. I use it every day at home. If I found it as awful as you insist it is, I wouldn't still be using it by choice.

But thanks.

This x 1000. The only folks that voluntarily use IE are those that still have active MySpace accounts and are wondering where everyone went.

It's awful for web innovation. It's absolute hell on developers. The fact that Microsoft stops upgrading it on operating systems is terrible, dangerous, and it goes against the very idea of what a web browser should do.

I understand you find it acceptable. Just realize that you are contributing to a pretty massive problem that has only been slightly reeled in by other people being willing to spend the 1 minute it takes to get a different superior option.

Serious question Lip, is this the kind of thing that should discourage one from buying the next gen system on launch?
I was thinking of getting a One but now I'm wondering if I should wait a couple years to let the bugs get worked out... those RROD type bugs. Your thoughts?

Unless there is something you absolutely have to play that is only on a next-gen system, I'd probably wait.

The best description I heard someone give is that everyone who bought an Xbox One at launch is beta testing it. I pretty much embraced that and I'm happy with it thus far (current service issue aside). I mostly use it for stuff other than gaming though, so while I'm probably exactly the sort of person they were targeting with this console, I'm probably not a great barometer for how someone who is looking at using it for just playing games would enjoy it.

Also, I would say the hardware issues for this console are nowhere near the 360s were at launch. There was the issue with some consoles BR drives not working but the numbers on that didn't seem to come close to the RRoD issues with the 360. I also don't see a huge number of people having this Kinect issue, so it strikes me as a "it's manufacturing, shit happens" sort of thing.
