ESPN is a 24 hour sports news channel so by design they feel they have to treat a sneeze by any player of any sport they cover as the most important thing that's happened all day, and they'll develop a top 10 out of it sometime during the week.

sports blogs emulate this overzealous nature to a nauseating degree, creating a hyperbolic "fandom" that i would think most fans actually don't give a damn about...but now it's like we're forced to because we hear about it so much. in other words, overexposure.

The Winners and Losers of DAY ONE Free Agency. Day One. As if there are only going to be 3 days of free agent signing EVER this year.

This "writer" gives us poor fans the last but not least LOSER of DAY ONE of NFL Free Agency:

Quote:
It's like Christmas without any presents.

it's worse than hitler.

Quote:
Some GMs don't like to play the high-stakes game of free agency when it begins. Jets GM John Idzik is prudent. Nobody can be sure the Packers' Ted Thompson knows free agency exists because he almost never signs anyone. So even with a good amount of cap room, those teams passed on the first day.

Buffalo, Carolina, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, New England and St. Louis were some other teams that were very quiet on Tuesday.

as if fans of buffalo don't have it bad enough...now they're LOSERS for their team MISSING OUT on THE FIRST DAY OF FREE AGENCY. BAD, BAD BAD!!!

Quote:
That doesn't necessarily mean they made mistakes, or that they won't do anything at all.

Huh...Oh! Whew! But then why--

Quote:
All of those teams could sign some key contributors in the second wave of free agency (except Green Bay, because Thompson is apparently a conscientious objector).

I'm guessing this is written by a Packer fan with all the Ted Thompson digs.

Quote:
But for the fans who dreamed since the season ended about their team signing every big-name free agent possible, it was kind of a bummer. You'll have to just tune back in for Day 2.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR DAY TWO! I'M ALREADY AT THE BRIDGE! GOODBYE, CRUEL WORLD!

I couldn't even breathe waiting for free agency to start. I was white knuckled, teeth were clenched...couldn't talk to anyone.

But boy did I celebrate hard, tears of joy streaming down my face...when my team signed Jarius Byrd. I was high fiving every one I came into contact with.
