It's the only single-digit number that requires two syllables to say. It has bothered me for years. And don't come at me with that "zero" bullshit. Zero is unique.

He's busy, so it goesn't get written till the night before the recital. So he's at dress rehearsal and sits down to play his brand-new composition as the ballerina dances. It's a total disaster. She's completely out of sync with the music, she's weeping. She screams "WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE BEAT? IT'S ALL OVER THE PLACE!" Composer goes "what? I wrote it just like you wanted! 100 beats per minute and it's in 7/4 time!" "YES," she cried, "ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR-FIVE-SIX-SEV-EN, ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR-FIVE-SIX-SEV-EN..."
