Comparing Oprik's hit to Seabrook's get a grip! Seabrook cost them the game on a dick play.Down 0-2 they got their back to the wall. You and your team deal with it and quit whinning!

Seabrook's was worse, because the puck was long gone from Backes' stick. Toews was still playing the puck.

Watch the full videos, not GIFs. The puck was just on Toews' stick the instant before he got hit. When Backes got hit, the puck was behind the net. Not the same.

Take the day off from trolling Walt.

It was a selfish and dick move by a guy that now has his team down 0-2. And, he will get at least three games for that hit too.

When the Hawks move to a younger squad in the upcoming years, l00k for Seabrook to be one of the first guys from the old guard to be gone.

While you'd like to think a top level professional would have the presence of mind not to do something so damn dumb, I don't think enough thought goes into something like that to call it "selfish". Shit happens out there in the heat of the moment.

I think that's a hit made by very few Blackhawk players.

And if he was playing the puck instead of Backes, it doesn't happen to Seabrook at all.

I hope you are right.

But i think it's going to depend somewhat on how long Backes may be out.

The sport that goes to the full extent to protect players.

But this is still allowed?

Much different deal.

And Aaron Downey is one of the most quiet and mild mannered guys you could ever meet.

Exactly. No way that is a selfish move. Seabrook has no history of such things and has never shown to be a "selfish" kind of player.

Heat of the moment things happen.

What you guys fail to understand is, that would have been a different penalty if he hadn't KO'd Backes. It would have been called interference.

It's a bad move either way. And one that should NEVER be made by a veteran player in the last five minutes of a play off game. EVER.

I am not saying it wasn't a bad move. But I do not buy for one minute that it was a selfish move by Seabrook. That is not his game.

Having spent time with some NHL / AHL guys off the ice, the enforcers are generally some of the nicest guys on the team as long as they aren't on the ice.

He chose to get his licks in on a guy rather than lay off.

It was going to be a penalty either way you look at it. And just because it isn't his usual game, doesn't mean that this wasn't a selfish move here. He chose to hit a guy who was skating away from a puck that he didn't have. I guess it could just have been plain fucking stupid but I think we can agree that isn't usually his game either.

Post subject:  Re: Hawk Fans

The hit was dirty. That's pretty undeniable. We can argue hypotheticals all day long. Seabs gets there 6 inches later, he's fully in the air and gone 25 games ala Torres. Backes doesn't miss the puck it's a legal hit. Orpik gets there later and he hits Toews in the head like he wanted to and not the shoulder. Doesn't matter. All dirty plays.

My issue comes with the 5/10/GM being called after the play was whistled dead. Seen many isntances from my Wolves perch were either coach is destroying the ref after a bad hit, pointing at the linesmen going "that guy saw it! this guy saw it!" The JumboTron is showing it above and they are pointing at that and screaming too. The ref is intentionally never looking at the screen or the Linesmen and keeps saying "I didn't see it in real time / live / call it during the play, so I can't just go and call it now." If no arms went up during play, I don't care if Seabs killed the damn guy and gets 100 games. You can't after the fact give him the 5/10/GM because Backes thinks he's Batman. If they thought the play was clean in real time then you let the NHL office deal with it later.

Latest example of ridiculous discipline in the nhl.

Intentional spear to the groin, repeat offender = $5k fine
Grab your own balls = $25k
Over-aggressive hit during game play, first time offender = 3 games

Stupid.
