We did a benefit show this past weekend. The event was set up to help some people from a central Illinois town call Washington that got slammed by a tornado last year. The headlining act was the '80s hair band Warrant. The event was set up originally in the town of Washington, but some permitting fiasco occurred and the venue was changed to a bar a friend of ours owns. The band was paid $7500 up front with the remaining money to be paid by to them at a later time.

Long story short, Warrant bailed on the show and took the money and left without playing. They screwed over our friends and the original show promoter. Of course, we were pissed and blasted them on facebook for taking the money and running. It started taking on a life of it's own and people started blasting their website and bashing them. They ended up blocking people and deleting posts, so someone started a page dedicated to bashing Warrant. It's been on television and internet radio stations.

We've heard from the promoter that venues that Warrant has shows booked at are threatening to cancel the shows and Warrant is threatening legal action if they lose that revenue. These assholes are trying to spin this where they're blaming everyone but themselves.

They've contacted local promoters we know and are trying to get people to stop working with us.

Man, that sucks. I went to Washington back in December. Going to take years to rebuild that town. Shit like this doesn't help.

I mean, from what I heard, I think Warrant might have a case. The lawers will check in but Im sure they'll find some bullshit legal reason why they couldnt play the show (did they ever agree to the venue change?)

Im just going off how it would go down on L.A. Law

There's something in the original contract that says they were supposed to have the balance of money by a certain deadline. I'm sure there's a legal standing that they won't get in trouble, but all of the rented equipment was on stage. They could have played. We were direct support for them and five minutes before our set was supposed to be over, their road manager told the promoter they were bailing. It's just shitty, and now they're threatening people.

Yeah. I mean, for a benefit too. Its pretty shady. Maybe they didn't agree to the venue but as long as the equipment was good and the stage was safe, etc their manager or somebody should have said to them, "Look this is a benefit for tornado victims. Its suck the venue has changed, but everything is ready to go and its not worth it to cancel. Play 12 songs and we'll get the hell outta here."

I don't see why you couldn't sue them over specific performance. With all the lawyers we have here, isn't someone a contract guy?

$7500 for Warrant, plus MORE at a future time?

That's some crazy money for a 60-90 minute set for a band that nobody has heard from in nearly 25 years.

Yeah, I bet Krokus would have done it for half that.

i guess that explains why these washed up has-beens still play suburban bars, i mean if you're pulling that kind of cash, i wouldn't care how much of an ass i looked like up there

but yeah say you figure a ticket is 10$, you need to sell 750 just to break even ??? i don't think Warrant could draw 750 in Chicago, let alone a tiny central Illinois town

How was paying a shitty band $10k+ to play a shitty bar (100? people at how much per head?) going to throw off any cash to benefit anyone other than Warrant and the OP's childhood fantasies of opening for the shittiest of shitty 80's hair bands. Better off skipping the vanity "concert" and giving the money earmarked for Warrant directly to the people of Washington and let OP work through his rockstar fantasies playing video games. Image

Yeah, I think this thread is off target here. DB nomination should go to whoever decided to pay Warrant that much money.

I believe they had hopes that Warrant would draw and the people would bring in donations, like clothes, water, cleaning supplies, etc (which they did) and spend money on raffles and silent auctions. There was a decent amount of people there, but the bar had to refund the ticket sales because Warrant canceled.

I have zero "rockstar fantasies". I'm very aware of my place in the food chain...
