I cannot stand this trend. Deadliest Catch is seemingly the worst offender in this regard but there are plenty of others who do it too.

They are never interesting.
They are so generic that it is laughable. "@sunshineiscool Way to catch that crab!"
They often act like they are friends. "@charliesmiley I knew you could do it!"
They almost always pop up with a graphic that makes them almost impossible to ignore.

I don't care about twitter on television. If I wanted to know what a bunch of people I don't care about on twitter were saying I'd go to twitter and see all the great writing in 140 characters about Deadliest Catch and other shows.

At a minimum, find funnier or more racist twitter users so at least it will be compelling.

I may be taking an extended break if Baby McCown follows through with his end of the deal.

TV news does this as well. Nothing more enlightening and intelligent than some idiot using 142 characters and slang to voice their dissaproval about something.

"here is what @totes420 has to say about the latest poor econmic report..."

Other 'trends' Brick hates ....

Pushbutton phones
Unleaded self-serve gasoline
Horseless carriages

+10000 to Brick's "movement"

I especially loathe Fox 32 and their constant twitter presence. In my attempt to get to bed, I want me some 9 PM news and WGN doesn't always come in good out here in the sticks...

our local news appears to be shifting it's entire news research effort to savaging video clips from YouTube, showing them multiple times per half hour, and then displaying tweets about them on the screen. progress is amazing

If you want local news in the morning you either have to deal with the inane Twitter crawl on Ch. 32 or Robin Baumgarten doing everything but falling off of her chair on Ch. 9.

On Ch. 32 I've seen Anita Padilla, on several occasions, on location reporting on a story and then holding her phone up to the camera and scrolling through FB comments.

Does she have a drug/alcohol problem?

I think this is an obvious consequence of networks focusing on increasing ratings as opposed to content quality. It's sort of like CNN sticking with the plane story to such an extent that its coverage of the plane became more of a story than the plane itself - whatever drives viewership wins out.

Sounds like my decision to never watch the news is as smart as my decision to never read a newspaper.

I don't think she does, but it would at least explain why she's a bumbling doofus and so bad at her job. When I used to have Ch. 9 in the morning while getting ready for work, which would be for about 15-20 minutes tops, I saw her:

Frequently misspeak or mispronounce names
Burp on the air
Not be able to read when it was her turn because she had food in her mouth
Not be able to read because she was choking on food
Have a bag of chips on the news desk (that looks very tacky)
Not be at her seat when the camera cut to her

If she managed to do all of that during my very limited viewing I can't imagine how often she did those things during the course of a three hour show...or what else she did.

And yet, they dominate the morning news ratings.

Do they? Most everyone else on there is likable. If I'm flipping around she's not there, I'll keep them on.

For anyone who had never been in a car in heavy traffic when it's snowing, those segments were invaluable.

A topic for the 99% invisible podguys, but I think the twitter UI is, or at least has become, a recognizable, user-friendly, attention-getting means of
communicating text

I think Robin stumbling/fumbling/bumbling around is a bit. An effective one, going by ratings. I watch and enjoy their show. tho not after 9 am, if I'm around to watch it that late. Image

Kind of how RFDC thinks Terry being largely uninformed and contributing nothing of value to B&B is a bit?

I never considered that about Robin, and I suppose I can see how her incompetence and nincompoopery could make her seem "real" to a portion of the audience, but I'd be surprised to find out it is a bit.

Why are you no longer "NearWestSideHussra"?

Seems clear that Chus is, in fact, Amy Jacobson.
