What could be more exciting than a team taking a 1 goal lead and then turtling up on defense with not attempt to score for the next 20 minutes? |

good dolphin wrote: HO-LEE SHIT, how much longer does this tournament last? it's another month or thereabouts, cuz i think by mid-july the big UK/euro teams gotta start touring remote 3rd world countries and/or the USA (i had a dunkin donuts napkin that recently talked about winning a trip to fenway to see liverpool, who is gonna be here @ soldier field for the international super mega uber champions cup thingy. arsenal, of course, is in NYC so ugh.... rest assured there's kickstarters for people in california who wanna make a "book" about their journey from cali to NYC to see arsenal (WITH OTHER AMERICAN GOONERS NO LESS) so yeah i reckon even if i decided "yeah i wanna see arsenal" it's gonna cost $1000+ to do everything proper seeing as all of the americans who want a chance to see them are gonna be out in droves. but the reason to DBOTW the world cup is that brazil got refballed to victory today.... even tho they got a late goal circa 88' to go up 3-1, at 1-1 they were gifted a completely horseshit penalty shot to put them up 2-1 and have croatia chasing the game late, which prolly led to them taking more desperate chances to score which led to brazil countering to go up 3-1. yeah, much like worst korea had a lil help from their friends to make a deep run in the 2002 world cup, it seems like brazil is gonna have all the help in the world to at least make the quarters or semis and put on a good show because of the political climate being what it is.... they didn't wanna risk a 1-1 draw and only 1pt with cameroon and mexico being decent-to-good and having a chance to have one of them get 3pts early and have a shot at burying brazil.... so when a guy flops in the box that ref's arm goes up and the $$$good-business$$$/best-for-FIFA/brazil refeering comes in because well, just ask any one of those millionaire people who run fifa.... they're important messages of unity and togetherness because the whole world can come together by using their visa cards to buy a budweiser beer for themselves and a drink mixed with coke for the missus.... even if they had to change a long-standing law in brazil to allow alcohol sales at games because you don't get all of the economic empowerment that comes with a world cup (just think about how much that stadium in manaus is going to help the city/region after it's 4 world cup games. now shakira has somewhere to play when she thinks "my tour doesn't have enough jungle stops in it") welp... if you want the fifa bump then you gotta play ball and allow budweiser to hock their wares at all these stadiums for likely $10+/beer because without that we're not truly embracing the spirit of togetherness that is FIFA FOOTBALL. also i think they recently commissioned a proper movie about their origins, so if you wanna see history decide to cheer them on going forward to check that one out. i forget it's name but it's got starpower and the timeless story of how an association of guys came up with the greatest non-profit-profiteering scehme on this side of 1-877-KARS-4-KIDS BUT YEAH TL;DR i saw a dude on the metra today in a brazil kit and he looked outright pissy-n-flummoxed when i said "you lot needed refball today. thank FIFA for that one, eh?" |
