I'm glad they have updated from a WWII stretcher to a 1970s stretcher to take injured players away. Maybe they can work on having an actual timeframe for the game rather than having a ref arbitrarily blowing a whistle to end the game. |

I don't understand this either, does the stop button not work on the clock? |

My guy Jim Higgins who owns Higgins' Tavern has a huge sign in his bar that says something like "NO SOCCER ON TV. DON'T EVEN ASK!" |

I disagree. At least with the radio you can imagine there is a lot of fast pace play going on. When you watch it, it just validates that there isnt. |

Can a soccer guy around here explain that? |

Can a soccer guy around here explain that? Official time is kept by the head referee on the field. At his discretion, he can stop the clock for things such as injuries, goals, substitutions, and any other perceived delays. It keeps control of the game in the referee's hands and does not allow it to be manipulated by a third party scorekeeper, ect. |

Yeah the whole blowing your whistle to get the official timekeeper to stop the clock seems to be awful. It just seems like a stupid set up. I enjoyed watching a couple soccer games yesterday, but that time thing is frustrating. |

Agree RFDC, Hawg Jr. is trying to get me to watch this and I get so pissed off at the stupid clock. A team will be down a goal in extra time and it is like the official will give them one more chance, and if it doesn't work he blows the whistle to end the game. Soccer = Wrestling, it is fixed. |

It would be like an umpire all of a sudden decided that a 10th inning needs to be played. It makes zero sense. Next to the AS game deciding home field for the World Series, the clock operation in soccer is probably the silliest rule in all of sports. |

The flopping too, although there is a reason behind it. If a player is injured, then the other player can get penalized which is why these guys flop all the time. So all of that BS is a product of their own stupid rules. IMHO, the faking should be penalized even harsher. Also add that the sport's crown jewel, which happens once every 4 years, can allow games to end in a tie...even a 0-0 tie. Just riveting! |

Is it internationally considered too gauche to take someone off on a motorized cart? |

Right up there with hot dog joints that won't give you ketchup. I love seeing the soccer hate here. I can't stand the sport, and I find it funny how everyone tries to convince me why I should like it. The Economist did a long article on the world cup. What was interesting is that for how much the world loves soccer, three of the most populous countries are not soccer havens- India, China, and the U.S. |

I love soccer and I don't give a fuck if anybody else does. I do enjoy people going out of their way to tell me they don't like it though, as if it's some secret society with handshakes. Guess what, most people don't like soccer, so no one will assume you like it. You don't even have to make a production of of explaining why you don't, we know why. |

I understand that its probably not fun to run around a giant field all day to play a game that ends at 0-0, but thanks for trying. |

watching the game yesterday during dinner i tried explaining to my wife about why it bothered me that they didnt stop the clock during injuries and goals... and if you are going to do injury time.... then stop the damn game at exactly the 94th minute then.... she couldn't even feign interest in the conversation. |

I appreciate how dolphin gave an example of something more boring than soccer by displaying one of his posts. |
