This guy's a 100% dick, no matter what Rhomann Dey believes. I don't know what's more annoying...his two obnoxious dogs, his cancellation policy, or the fact that he keeps comparing his b&b to a Marriott hotel (everyone should know a b&b is nothing like a fucking hotel chain, but you still have to have customer service, genius!).

Quote:
A Hudson lodging establishment has been slammed with a tidal wave of bad publicity after The New York Post’s Page Six described a policy of fining wedding parties $500 per negative reviews on Yelp.

The Post’s story about the Union Street Guest House was quickly and gleefully picked up by Fox & Friends, TIME online, Business Insider, and others, leading to a raft of negative feedback on Yelp and Twitter. (This begs the question: Is all press really good press?)

The USGH’s longtime owner, former 3rd Ward Alderman Chris Wagoner, responded around noon to the outrage, noting that the proposed fine was for weddings only, had never been levied, and in any case was “tongue in cheek”:

The policy regarding wedding fines was put on our site as a tongue-in-cheek response to a wedding many years ago. It was meant to be taken down long ago and certainly was never enforced.

I will say, the Yelp reviews are pretty entertaining. And not all of them date back to just this day. There have been complaints about this place for years.

The guest house website's cancellation policy:

Quote:
CANCEL AT YOUR OWN RISK! Cancellations must be made via email and you must receive a response from us for a cancellation to be accepted at all. cancel@unionstreetguesthouse.com. There will be a $35 charge for any cancellation (per room). Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 15 days prior to your arrival date for a non wedding reservation to receive any type of refund. Cancellations made within 15 days will be charged for the entire length of stay. 100% of your reserved stay will be billed to your credit card when we accept your online booking. Early departures and changes in arrival dates are considered cancellations. We reserve the right to refund at any time. Wedding guests are not refunded until after the event.

We do not give credits for future stays. If we have not worked out a mutual agreement for a credit within 29 days from the date or your reservation we will no longer honor any type of refund. We do not refund any fees that may have been added to your charge.

NOTE: If your stay is longer than 3 days we do not accept cancellations of any kind.

Yet people still stay there.

I know Yelp claims they dont tamper with reviews, but they are LIARS! LIE, LIE, LIE.

They have removed my negative, but clean, reviews of places and then one of the first times I ever used YELP, read the BRAND BBQ and they had 2 Positive, very long reviews, that were almost identical, just a few select words changed.

Let me say. YELP Good stock to buy right now. Someone will buy them very soon.

I ignore yelp but apparently many people do not.

And, a guy I know reacts to any negative reviews on his place by having an employee go on and counter with a positive review.

How could he possibly collect a "fine" for a bad Yelp review? Charge the credit card on file? That's pretty dicey.

Agreed. Although Mrs. Dr. Ken and I stayed in one in Palm Beach where the owner bartended in the little dining area and told us all about living the Studio 54 life in the 1970s while he was dating models. It was damn entertaining. He had pictures all over the walls confirming it, too.

Normally, the BS meter would go up but with all the proof around us, it was pretty entertaining stuff. Plus, one look at the guy and he looked like a guy 25 years removed from that lifestyle. He still had the wide collars and shirt unbuttoned down to his waist. He was, as the kids say, "a hoot".

Hudson is one of the worst towns in America. It is full of well-educated and affluent but intellectually bankrupt thirty-somethings who equate a certain kind of boutique-oriented conspicuous consumption and the use of innovative technologies and communication methods to forward politically centrist ideas with the attainment of a politically progressive identity.

When I intervewed for the job I have now I stayed at a BandB because the area doesn't have any other nice hotel. I was the only person staying there as it was a Wednesday...in March... in Pennsylvania. I hated it. No TV, no internet, and the next morning eating breakfast while making small talk with the owner is just about everything I hate in life.

I think that is actually what it says on the sign on the way into town.

It's a really big sign.

I stayed at a B and B on Kodiak Island, Alaska on my honeymoon. The female proprietor wanted to sit there and talk about what brought her to Alaska while I'm trying to give her the bum's rush so I could get my fuck on. I bet she wasn't nearly as friendly to the next set of guests after having to burn those sheets from our visit.

I also went bear trekking.

Did you find them, they have been lost for roughly 28 years?

I've stayed at a bunch of bed and breakfasts across the country and generally like them. Since my wife and I prefer not to socialize with strangers during breakfast, we typically request to be served in our rooms. I've never encountered a problem with that.
