Olney.Bernstien and the rest! Jeter's Farwell tour has hurt the Yankees, Hitting him in the 2 hole.playing him everyday. That's hurt a team were the highest BA among starters is .271 Their pitching is God awful and who takes Jeters place in the lineup ????These bashers don't know shit about baseball...and we will see how the Yanks do without the Captian Buster and Dan! |

He's so good they should bring him back next year! He'll probably win a gold glove again! Fuck the Yankees, they should all retire at the end of season. |

Should be a nice five year break for every member of the sports media. No doubt they'll relish lining up to fellate him again when he makes his trip to Cooperstown. |

Jeter is overrated, but deserves to be in the Hall. He's just not that great. If he gets in and you rank shortstops, he beats out Rizzuto and maybe some of the old timey guys I don't know like Hughie Jennings. But I'd pick Banks, Ozzie, Ripken, Yount, etc. over Jeter all day long. |

But I'd pick Banks, Ozzie, Ripken, Yount, etc. over Jeter all day long. I'm not sure about all of that. Yeah, Ernie at shortstop was a special thing. No shortstop had that kind of power outside the juice guys. But he did only play about half his career at short. I'd argue Jeter was better than Yount for sure. Ozzie Smith is another special guy. A guy who isn't in there based on his bat at all. But it depends in how much stock you put in certain defensive metrics, particularly defensive WAR. I consider Smith, Aparicio, and Vizquel to all be similar players. And I'm not sure any of them was better all around than Jeter. I would say Ripken is most similar. Jeter hit a little better. Ripken had more power. Neither one was considered a defensive wiz, but they both made all the plays they should and were important influences in the middle of the field on their respective teams. And nobody thinks Jeter is the greatest Yankee except in bernstein's twisted fantasies. Not even Jeter's mom or his many girlfriends believes such a thing. There is the matter of guys like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle. Let's not be stupid. |

RFDC wrote: Jeter is not even the greatest Yankee during his playing days, much less of all time. Well, of course he is the greatest Yankee during his playing days. Who do you think is greater? The relief pitcher? The juicehead? He's the greatest Yankee since Mantle. It would be hard to argue otherwise. |

Well, you might have a case if relief pitcher was more than 2% as important as shortstop. |

When you are probably the greatest EVER at your position, you are the greatest player on your own team. Let's not act like closer is some position that does not matter at all. It is not like he was the greatest bench player ever or the greatest pinch hitter ever. This is a guy who was HUGE to them during their run. Mariano > Jeter |
