No, this isn't a rant about starting the wrong player. I'm sick of what FF is doing to actual football watching. After Jeffrey's TD was reversed yesterday, a Bears fan sitting near me yells in excitement "This (referring the TD that was negated) means nothing! Fantasy is money!" All this pencil dick did the entire day was tell those sitting near him (not me luckily, he didn't talk to me after I told him to shut up about the Redskins game being on, and that they will not change it for him) about him having this player and "That play got me 0.7 points!" Thought the fucker was going to cream his Dockers over an INT. As sad as it sounds, I love watching that sad sack of Washington R**skins football team weekly. Sure, I play fantasy, but I would never, ever, ever root for something that helps my fantasy squad, while hurting my actual football team for which I root. I have enough emotion invested in the 'Skins that a fantasy victory could never come near.

I have Aaron Rodgers in my main keeper league. It is hell when the Bears play the Packers.

Not for Rodgers.

i stopped playing fantasy football 3 or 4 years ago because it was really ruining my experience; it was also around this time that it exploded in popularity. when i started playing it, there was a "gentlemanly" quality about it and it was fun to talk shit or whatever because it was more about camaraderie. now every sports bar you go to you got these douchenobs with their iphones and ipads checking on all the scores with their backwards hats on (and sunglasses placed on top of the bill) who just make me sick to my stomach to think about playing FF.

it's basically the new texas hold'em. just like nobody cares that you won "five bills" in a tourney with 40 other "rounders"; nobody cares that you have the best team in your FF league (out of the 8 that you play in).

I started playing fantasy football before computers & the internet in the mid 1990's. It was a work league & we would schedule a conference room for our draft. Each team owner tallied their score based on the stats in the box score published in the paper Monday & Tuesday morning. We would all meet again in the conference room on Tuesday to review the scores.
Gosh I miss those days.

I quit playing for this reason and others. It is boring to me, and it is not all that related to actual on-field performance. It boils down to who happens to get the ball a lot or who gets injured or whatever. Fantasy football tries to apply individual performance to what is truly a team sport, and the two don't work very well together, IMO. Then again, I used to play it and have a lot of fun. But it got old, and I agree with G-Reg, that the people who talk about it all the time are insufferable.

Also stopped playing for these reasons. I fucking hate when I'm at work and I'll ask someone "So the Texans/Colts play tonight, right" and get back "Yeah I got TY Hilton and Arian Foster going". It immediately makes me hate that person.

Yes, but while many companies had a mainframe & some sort of operating system, giving all employees a laptop wasn't yet commonplace. While I don't mind not returning from lunch to see 10 pink "while you were out" slips on my desk, I do miss the simpler times.

The most fun I have is at our annual golf outing, which is followed the draft that night. Your golf performance determines your draft position. It's all downhill after that.

Wanna hear about my WR corps, bro?

Its possible to play fantasy football and still watch football in a normal way.

And why are you guys listening to people talk about their teams?

Give em one of these

I dont think any of us actively engage in conversation about their teams. It's more the annoying trend that less and less people discuss football in a normal way.

Its not rude to interrupt someone and say "I dont give a fuck about your fantasy team."

Anyway, this is the current landscape of NFL fandom.

A good percentage of people are bigger fans of their own fantasy team, then the team they grew up with.

I find it easy to separate the fantasy nerds from the actual football fans

I quit playing in a league with some people I know, because that was all they would talk about. One guy wouldn't even watch the games, he would just stare at his laptop, and give us updates when his team scored more points. Keep it.

I do enjoy playing FF, but I don't talk about my teams, because I know that nobody cares.

The Redskins game was on exactly one TV at the establishment yesterday. One. Penis Bread was sitting three people the left of me. I wasn't moving.

Fantasy Football is a huge reason for the monster ratings NFL games get. People will tune into lousy Football games just to monitor their guys. Show me a guy who quit playing Fantasy Football and I'll show you one that wasn't any good at it.

Vegas had NFL with boffo ratings well before fantasy. Sure it helps but not the main engine.

For the record I was pretty good at Fantasy Football. I don't have time to play correctly anymore. Many many hours of work. Plus... it got to be that I was cheering against my favorite teams when I had a damn player on my team playing against them. Odd feeling. Didn't like it. Now I do mostly pick em leagues and confidence pools, which is still fun but doesn't require time that I cannot commit to.

Post subject:  Re: Fantasy Football

I still like it but only one team is all I do. I fucked up my draft so I suck but that is kinda fun to search the lists for a chance in the dark to save me.

I only care about Fantasy Football and couldn't give two shits about real football. Once my team is eliminated (only won it all once so I'm eliminated early more often than not) I stop watching the NFL. Don't have a favorite team, don't care about the playoffs, haven't seen the Super Bowl in many years.

That said, I'm nowhere near as invested in FF nowadays as I was years ago. used to study for the draft and all the crap, never got me anywhere. This year my research consisted of watching one episode of Hard Knocks and somehow my team is 5-1. Watch the Red Zone every week and fast forward to TDs and close games in the 4th quarter.

Oh, and I listen religiously the Fantasy Sports on satellite in my car from start of football season till my teams are done, find that so much more interesting than actual football talk. Love hearing people call in with horrible trade scenarios, those never get old.

You all sound like a bunch of old ladies. Fantasy sports is GREAT. Not playing hasn't stopped you from having to hear about other people teams and you're the ones that didn't have the ability to separate fantasy from reality.

This makes zero sense.
