I actually know a number of people who do email marketing at Sears. Talk about a sinking ship...

I haven't been inside a sears since my mom took me shopping there, and I can't think of a single reason to ever shop there again.

My sales conversations usually ended up saying "Yeah, Best Buy carries that exact model, but if you'd like something smaller and only slightly more expensive, follow me!"

I have a some great stories about Sears from when I consulted there.

They are going to have to wait until after the ship sinks.

Mr. Crest:

Your email was forwarded to me for my review.

As you know, there is no consulting or employment agreement between you, individually, or your company and Sears Holdings Management Corporation. As such, you request to receive further compensation is denied.

In addition, attached to this email is a Nondisclosure Agreement between you and Sears Holdings Management Corporation. This agreement was executed by you on October 25, 2006. We expect you to honor your obligations under the Nondisclosure Agreement. If we learn that you are acting otherwise, we will act appropriately.

Sincerely,

Mary Tortorice

My wife works part-time at the sears here.
It's closing at the end of the month.
It's also the most profitable Sears in this region. They are closing it because the mall also has a Kmart (I live in a classy part of Pennsylvania) and don't want the competition. They are killing a Sears to save a Kmart.

That explains why Sears will be in the graveyard next to Circuit City and Linens and Things in the next five years.

My wife is disappointed b/c it is her guaranteed 10 hours a week of being around adults. Oh and she liked the discount (but that hasn't been as impressive since they closed the photography studio).

Doing the same here. Closing a Sears Brand Central or whatever. The closest chance to save their ass like a Walmart or Target. Kmart owns it and will take Kmart to Dollar General. Buy Sears.

i went to the one near me on Black Friday about 5 years ago to get a washing machine...crapped out a few weeks before and i figured if i could hold off until then, i might be able to get a good deal
their big deal was first 50 or 100 people in the store got a 25$ gift card...of course i was pretty much the only person in the store
worked out good, got the gift card plus a pretty good deal, washer still works fine

of course they closed like 2 years ago and now it's been a giant empty lot since then

I got a really good quote from another store and then went to them since they match prices. Had no problems
and got a decent deal. The one in Gurnee is a Sears Grand so my thought was that should stick around until the end.
Past warranty now but it worked out in the end.

I got my parents a snow blower from there a couple of winters ago, and last year I got some outside Xmas lights that were marked down to like 80% off the weekend after Christmas.

Outside of these 2 events, and walking thru a store to get into/out of a mall, I haven't been inside of a Sears in a long time.

Sears is in a weird market. It doesn't reach the economies of scale of big box stores, and it also doesn't "specialize" in anything memorable. It is destined for a life of mediocrity and, ultimately, failure.
