Gives away the number of a Cub great- the man who pitched the greatest game in baseball history, a number that should be retired- to some fuckin' carpetbagger from Boston. No respect. Pissing in the face of the loyal Cub fan again.

Lester called K Wood.

At least JORR finally seeing the greatest game ever pitched.

Should I start a thread about how Lester took almost $15 m less to come here v SF.

I have seen that happen multiple times. But usually the person holding the camera on other side of the fence doesn't fall down.

Even I think that's unnecessary and ridiculous.

No. Because it isn't true. Sabean said they didn't come close to that offer. Cubs paid $20 million more than anyone else.

I bet Theo is in Ricketts' desk drawer ripping up Kerry's contract right now. It's a sad day in Cub history.

Seems almost as ridiculous as retiring Baines' #3 while he was still playing and then give it back to him when he triumphantly returned to the south side.

It is not necessary, but cool that Lester even knew that it was his number.

Pitchers admire Wood, like it or not. Its what you get when you pitched the best single game ever.

At least Cub fans used to have honor. It's very sad to see your unquenchable thirst for victory eroding your morals as you celebrate Theo ass-fucking Ricky "Raw Deal" Renteria and cheer the theft of a great Cub's number so it can be worn by some mercenary.

What will Theo do next? Fire Salty Saltwell? Hand over number 14 to Addison Russell?

+ Baines makes K Wood look like a professional speaker.

If you retire a number, I think it's implied that if they player comes back to the team in any capacity, he can still wear that number.

You may want to explain that with smaller words. You're talking to Cub fans.

Then it should be implied that it should be retired and a second ceremony is not necessary.

But then again, a second Paul Konerko ceremony will be held this year.

That's better than handing his number to David Robertson!

I don't think Baines even had one ceremony, let alone two.

I hear ya. I should've stopped at "playing." Has the honor of retiring a number ever been bestowed (sorry, Cub fans, I mean "given to") to another player while they were still playing?

You mean the guy who choked in game #7? People forget how he pitched like shit when it counted most.
