Even when you take your shot, you blow it. You have a press conference that every station is taking and you say nothing. You talk about what a great effort everybody gave. And, then, 4 hours later, you announce you're benching Cutler. You could have given a press conference where you look authoritative and lay down the law. You're making changes! Guys are being held accountable! It doesn't matter who you are or what your contract is! But, no, we'll go through the process and I like the effort. Get this guy out of town. |

You don't think it reasonable to suspect that this is, instead, a reflection of dysfunction reaching levels so high that maybe this is a decision handed all the way down from on high - say, Ted or (ye gods) even George? |

I suppose it's possible. But, if so, maybe they tell the head coach before he has a press conference. It's been nearly two full days. They figured this out at 3pm this afternoon? |

Part of me hopes Clausen lights it up and they win the last two games, and Trestman gives a big Fuck You to both Cutler and Emery. As much of a weirdo Trestman has turned out to be, I wouldn't be shocked if many of his actions and words were forced on him by Emery. |

Doc.....think about what you''re saying. Trestman could fuck up a one car funeral at this point. He knows he's being fired. Do you actually think that, on his own, he's going to call Phil and say "By the way, I'm benching Jay" No way is that even plausible. |

The only reason Emery would bench him is to save injury. That seems thin. This could make Emery look horrible if Clausen lights it up. |

He's going to be traded. That's the only logical explanation for a benching at this point. It can't be performance related. And I hope Clausen lights it up. One more reason to can Emery. |

They figured this out at 3pm this afternoon? Oh, I suspect he may well have known. If you're going to tell the coach what to do, it's entirely reasonable to figure that also telling him what to say follows right along. This outfit not wanting this coach to have to talk about this decision, for my little money, makes the most sense here. |

The big question is when did Terry's guy leave him a voicemail message on the benching? |

There has been far too much sloppy play on the field for me not to think the troubles are not at least equally with Trestman. |

24 hours later, you got some red-ass in you. Kudos. You still don't do red-ass that well. |

This is the Douchebag section, not the lousy coach section. Trestman is not a very good figure of authority. He comes off as sorta weak. He may be a lousy head coach, but he seems like a really nice guy, with morals and good character. Nomination denied for that reason. |

concur with E.S. on this. he didn't want to tell the whole team via a press conference. which is the right thing to do. |

I believe the shit show that is the Emery / Trestman regime will result in the Bears finally hiring an experienced football guy. Just saw on the crawl that Harbaugh wants to see which NFL jobs are open before he makes a decision about the Michigan offer. Go get him George. |

Someone that lies about things they did wrong, to cover up their misdeeds and someone who lies to protect his players are not close to one another. He should care less about helping players be better men, husbands and Fathers and more about winning in my opinion. But he cares about all that other stuff, because he's a good, moral, high character guy. I may not be one myself, but I recognize one when I see one. He's a good guy. |

Trestman is an idiot. You don’t start Cutler. You bench him and you evaluate a health asset over the offseason. I wish George McCaskey was driving to Halas Hall right now to fire the whole lot of them. |
