Not one Brian Williams joke last night??

This crabby, lazy liberal a-Hole is still making Dick Cheney jokes and loves showing Chris Christie falling off a chair.

No video of Obama scolding Christians about the Crusades at a Bible Luncheon instead of worrying about ISIS setting people on fire. There can be a lot of humor at a scared POTUS making those remarks.

He annoys the crap out of me. I watch for the Alan Kaulter skits.

My point is there is just as much liberal goof-ups as conservative goof-ups. How he has lasted so long with crap ratings is beyond me. The only time he was going good is when they switched to Conan on NBC.

Yes. He complains about Letterman often. Stop watching if he is too liberal, and only makes fun of conservatives.

I agree. I haven't watched one of these shows in twenty years, unless there is a specific guest I want to see (Howard Stern, Phish, etc.).

Wow,20 years? I guess I'm usually not ready to fall asleep at 10:30 most nights. It's a habit started in the '70's when Carson had guy's like Rickles,Dangerfield, etc.

Lately,I don't even know what some of the guests are famous for. Too many TV/Cable Shows to keep track of.

At 10:30, you have more options than watch Letterman, or go to sleep.

I thought I saw where BW was supposed to be on his show this or next week, so he probably didn't want to "scare" him off the appearance .... though I have to presume the high ranking knobs at NBC will squash his extracurricular appearances and requisite dickery.

About 5 shows in after the Brian Williams dust-up,Letterman decides it's ok to rib him with a "Brian Williams top 10 fallacies" shtick.

All through the show,Letterman tried to explain how it was alright to embellish the news and it was no big deal. This liberal jerk needs to disappear sooner than later.

(Special note: I watched because Chris Elliot was on. He is one of my all-time favorite funny guys.At least I agree with Letterman on that. Chris started choking up and told Dave how much he loves him.
He then sang "To Sir with Love". )

Do they have any real "up n coming" comedians on any of these shows getting a first break or are all these guys ones who have been touring, had bit parts in movies and now are promoting something so the PR people get them on the show.

Thats the one great thing Letterman had was RAW comedy. Funny guys , writing their own stuff, getting on TV and being funny. It didnt need to pass through 5 people first who all modified it....and then it gets on the air and SUCKS

Been a Letterman fan since the get go. Was (and still am) a Carson guy before that, and have always appreciated how Dave looked up to and paid tribute to Johnny. The Letterman shows here toward the end have mostly been terrific IMO, especially because he's been having guests and music acts that he likes and not so much the usual parade of random people promoting whatever. I still occasionally go back and watch Johnny on YouTube. I'm already doing that with Dave.

I just dont watch any of those late night talk shows. I watch very little network TV outside of sports...surprised it remains popular with the other options...

Would rather watch Bourdain, Survivorman, Life Below Zero, History specials...or even Pawn Stars and Junk Pickers...than CSi anywhere.

i remember once in the mid-late 00s i was watching dave one night and he had someone like paris hilton on and out of nowhere he just kind of externalized "you know what i am? i'm a pimp for the entertainment industry..." and he went on this little 30second rant about the nature of late night tv and paris or whoever just kind of sat there looking like she was about to shit herself. that was golden. that was as real as the guy gets nowadays when he's not watching F1 or something.

colbert was the don of late night stuff IMO, so i wanna see what he can do with the format. but going back and watching old proper late night w/david letterman stuff reminds me of this one quote i heard about the show that was something like "late night with david letterman was like one big inside joke that you were in on" and that nailed it for me. somebody else said that what johnny carson did to build up the majesty and aura of the late night talk show was the antithesis of what david letterman did to deconstruct and essentially ridicule the inner workings of the late night talk show. dave was the counterpunch to johnny and you couldn't have the kind of success dave had unless you had johnny there before him to build up the late night talk show into this big formal prim and proper entity that was then ripe for the picking when the next generation came along.

of course as time goes on and the anti-establishment becomes the establishment everything loses it's serrated edge and essentially becomes a butterknife, but hey, who wants to have milquetoast without butter? i'll be interested to see what colbert can do before he gets old rich and jaded... and even then i hope he nails some people cuz he's got the improv wit to pick up where dave left off.

Modern Family is the only network show we watch.

For me, Craig Ferguson is the one who deconstructed the late night genre and broke the rules to tell us how fake and absurd it all is. I'll watch Letterman on occasion but Ferguson was appointment television for me.

I started watching the late night shows in the late 80s/early 90s. I didn’t get to see Johnny Carson’s shows from his younger days, but I don’t get it why some people are comparing Jimmy Fallon to Johnny Carson. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson seemed to have a middle-America, mass appeal, while the current Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon sometimes seems to be trying too hard to seem hip.
