What do you expect in a state like Indiana?

Embarrassing.

Organized religion in government is clearly a hindrance now.

Indiana, where discrimination and hatred masquerade as religious freedom.

Arizona isn't far behind.

Doctors in Arizona might soon be required to tell women that abortions can be "reversed." As the Washington Post reports, the Arizona legislature just passed a bill that is the latest in state-based attempts to ban women from using their own health insurance to pay for abortion. What makes this bill especially Orwellian is this attempt to force doctors to put the stamp of medical authority on the fantastical belief that women en masse are regretting their abortions hours after getting them and are miraculously getting them reversed through heroic interventions by Christian doctors.

And of course.....

I'm going to ask an incredibly ignorant question, but don't private businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone already? As much as I disagree, wouldn't say, a photographer be able to decline to work for a gay couple getting married? Does this just make it legal in IN for that photographer to say, I won't work for you because you 'offend my religion' O

Obviously it's going to protect and promote bigotry, but curious as to standing laws in terms of rights to refuse service in a private business

This is about being actively able to tell them about it. We must protect the rights of the religious people to openly judge others to their face!

Put those "No Gays Allowed!" signs up Indiana!

They are similar in many ways.

There are certain hot button issues that separate them (this is one of them, guns and abortion are two more) but they serve many of the same corporate masters.

What's crazy about that he said? 99% of D or R are beholden to corporte money and interests. I'd argue it's the x1 thing wrong about our political system. Well that and term limits.

Finally, they can keep the fruits out of the twice-weekly Klan meetings without fear of Billy Bob Bruce traipsing down to the courthouse to raise a ruckus with the local magistrate.

On a national level the "differences" are slimmer and more contrived, it's a theater of distraction and division. On a more local level the social issues are a bigger deal.

This is one of the areas where they are completely different. Regular Reader and I laid this out a long time ago. I think we had a dozen or so. We could have kept going, but the point was made.

And I could give you a bunch of examples where they crossover and have similar interests and act in similar ways. Obviously, they are alike on some things, and different on others. It's clearly a matter of degree.

But to be honest, I dont really care much about abortion or guns and those are two things that really separate them for a lot of people.

And you and Reader are both staunch supporters of the Democratic party (nothing wrong with that) and are strongly opposed to the Republican party (nothing wrong with that), so you guys might not be the best judge. (The same way guys on the other side would not.) Im not saying I am either, though.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the level of similarity.

But I will say that there are some very intelligent people and political minds that believe Dems and Republicans are nearly identical, so I think to say "anyone who says that is an idiot" is a little much
