There are a few guys on The Score who love to get subtle digs in on the sport of hockey and the Blackhawks (Jason Goff being the most guilty) on Score airwaves and Twitter.

Tonight during his 20 minute extravaganza before Sox baseball, Laurence Holmes decided to discuss the US Women's Soccer Team and their World Cup win over Japan. As soon as I heard him bring up the ratings (of course he probably knows nothing about the sport or strategies), I knew hockey was going to get another kick in the nuts. Laurence brought up the fact that the World Cup ratings were 3x higher than game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I'm not sure what his point was, but Laurence and Jason never let me down with thier trolling of the sport of hockey. You guys are my D-bags of the week.

Well, it is common CSFMB wisdom that the fact as stated is proof that women's soccer is more popular than hockey.

Surprising if they don't double down with the racism aspect of it too.

Bashing hockey is the way Larry and Goff say "I hate whitey" without really saying it. It's code.

Not so sure in Sirs case. Leery is the only brother who even when dating a black chick was still considered a mixed couple .

So if you have a 30 minute show, why waste time on the subject? Or how about talking about the game itself or some of the players. I'm sure Larry has some weird, perverted thoughts about the ladies that would be more interesting than comparing ratings?

Soccer fans might actually be more racist than hockey fans.

When the NHL has to put ' SAY NO TO RACISM' on the boards then it will be at same level of soccer racism.

Copa is as much as viewing party for many reasons other than the intrinsic aspects of the women''s game. I doubt either of them watched because they are fans of the women's game, if they watched at all.

if the US hockey team was in the gold medal game i'd have to assume those ratings would outdo womens soccer. that would be a better comp. comparing it to the stanley cup finals is not an apples to apples comparison....

I never thought I'd be on here defending LoHo but your summary is a bit misleading. Larry was comparing the Soccer ratings to all of the sports (including the NBA Finals and the previous Women's champs in 1999). It wasn't shot at Hockey. It was more of an open question as to what the high ratings meant in the bigger sports picture. He never really drew a conclusion and I tend to agree with BillyP that some of the comparisons were not fair.

The obvious answer to that question is everything if you're trying to argue that "football is king" and nothing at all if you're arguing that the NBA is more popular than women's soccer.
