can we dispense with this embarrassment of insisting that people call you doctor? It gives the false impression that you are an MD.

Do you enjoy the humiliation when you have to explain to those who ask, that you are not a physician?

same thing with you Dr. Jack Ramsey.

Elaine: So do most doctors like ER or do you guys just think it's fake?

Ben: I couldn't tell you. You know, I'm not really a doctor.

Elaine: Oh, yeah. And I'm not really attracted to you.

Ben: Well, I'm serious, Elaine. I went to medical school, but I still have to pass my licensing exam.

Elaine: When do you take this exam?

Ben: I've taken it. Three times. I almost passed the last one.

Elaine: Well, you're basically a doctor. Right? I mean, people do call you doctor.

Ben: Well, um...

Elaine: Well, can I introduce you as doctor?

Ben: Yeah.

Elaine: All right, that's all I wanted to know.

I, just like pittmike, could be called a scientist.

Doesn't mean I should be.

my kids principal at his high school uses "Dr." rather than "Mr.". i always have to remind myself to give him the "Dr." treatment although it seems weird to me to call a high school principal "Dr.". i am sure he earned it so it doesn't annoy me, it just feels weird and it trips me up sometimes. i am pretty sure Dr.'s don't probably like being called Mr., even by accident. He paid a lot for that "Dr.".

People who I work with who put the Dr. in their email name irritate me (so when I get the email on my phone it says it is from "Dr." Yes there are people who do that, make their first name Dr. middle name is their first name. Sad.
Yes, I am called Dr. Psycory at work. Outside work? Don't care. In fact, my middle child found out yesterday that I'm called Dr. Psycory when we were out and one of my students saw me and said hi. She laughed, "you are not a doctor, you are a dad."

Yep.

If there was any group that you would think would have adopted adding Dr. as a title, it would be lawyers. That is not the case. We are humble

Always felt it is weird to address people by an occupation as someone once deemed them more important to society than others. Judge, Detective, Dr. ...its a complete power play on someones ego...Counselor!

Then to have attained such designation via an online class or something lessor than what it is even supposed to represent...wow...that takes a small small person.

"yes, sir, will get that for you in a second fry guy!"

Just because someone attained a Doctorate (we're happy for you) does not make them better than anyone else. Mr./Mrs./Ms./actual first name is good enough for you, just like everyone else.

Assholes.

The University of Chicago makes the distinction that only a M.D. will be referred to as "Doctor".

I remember just being sad when he got sent to Utah. Not only would you never see him again, but Utah seemed like a horrific punishment.

It's important in any medical setting for actual doctors.

It isn't for anyone that simply chose to go to school longer to get a level above a masters degree.

Yeah you're right, he just completely disappeared. Probably the quietest 20ppg rookie in NBA history. Though MJ can only watch as the highlight of Doc's career occurs right here.

I do not have a PhD, but anyone that spends the time to earn one has every right to use that in a formal situation. Socially...that's a different story.
