Along with my monthly bill, just received a long note explaining why next month's bill is going up 14 dollars. That is unreal! If I go back to Comcast, there cheapest deal is 89.99 for 2 years but that's without the tax, service fee's and all the other BS.

I feel like cutting cable down to the bare minimum and stream Hulu Plus & CBS which would cost about 18 bucks a month.

Has anyone else tried to go the Streaming route?

I am doing it right now.
Yes, the savings is wonderful.
Here are the negatives -
AT&T for Internet is awful. A lot of streaming is slow and filled with glitches.
Some stuff, like "Better Call Saul," has not been made available yet.
There is no DVR available.
There is no TV guide available.
You can buy (or use somebody's) Comcast and stream it to your television via Chromecast, but believe it or not, they do not make Comcast Sports Net available except through the traditional television broadcast.
I spent way too much time and money watching the Blackhawks in bars.
Not having all of the Cubs games available is absolutely killing me!!!

I was thinking of getting rid of my DVR and going down to the very basic package + some streaming services.

Cut the cord about 7 or 8 years ago. I have a few websites to watch any show I want and a few websites for any sporting events. Had to keep Comcast cable because we have multiple devices using Roku or the internet at once. We don't miss cable one bit.

I couldn't imagine life without cable but I'm sure once I have kids to pay for I will have to kiss it goodbye.

Comcast is incredibly expensive.
The thing that pisses me off the most is that they charge new customers less than exiting customers.
I had Comcast since 1980.
Does 35 years of continuous service and paying the bill on time get you anything?
NO!
If you ask about prices that you see on TV ads or in the direct mail that they send, you are told that those prices are for new customers only.

...which is why you do the Comcast shuffle for a year.

Quit Comcast to go ATT; the TV service is OK, but the internet servic is too slow. Meanwhile, Comcast has been bombing me with mail offers at the new customer rates. I will be shifting my internet at least back to Comcast soon.

CALL. Stop using mailers and internet "deals." Pick up a goddamn phone and talk to their sales team. You will get a better deal than any advertised on TV or their website. I've been with them on a solo account for over 4 years now, and I've never paid advertised rates...and whenever my bill was scheduled to go up, by the next billing cycle it was back down.

Most of those are show stoppers for me. I have no interest is using a complicated system that requires 3 or 4 devices & I still cant get many programs.

Or how cheap cable actually is when you have a big boy job. Let's say the TV portion of your Comcast bill is $60. That is $2 a day. You can't float $2 a day?

I guess Madison jobs need to pay more.

yup. and there is going to be a massive anti-trust lawsuit because of it someday. they wont get away with this shit forever. the rest of the world will have min 1GB/sec connections with no caps, while were stuck at 100Mb/sec and 300GB data caps. it wont be hard for a judge to break it up and let real competition take place.... or, hell, do like they did with telephones back in the day and just federally fund the utility that it is.

whats likely going to happen though is the phone companies will continue to bolster cellular data, and eventually cover 90% of the country with data speeds that are faster than what the cable companies provide. then you have real competition.

and better news- DSL internet is about to get a HUGE boost. broadcom has been pumping out chips that can bring DSL connections in line with cable speed, which means land-line phone companies will be back in the cards too, and they have no problem undercutting comcast and affiliates. plus, DSL companies dont have their own self to shortsell... they dont provide live tv cable service so they dont have to worry about pricing themselves out of "business".

cute that you count how many posts i have. i can send you an autographed magazine of mens health if you give me your addy

all about convenience anyway. with cable, you have to watch whats on, or at least set your dvr and worry about what to record all the time. fuck that. with netflix and any other paid streaming service, you always run into things you hear about and want to see but cant find it. with kodi, everything is there. always. and it works. if tomorrow they said "kodi is now $60 a month" i would be the first to sign up for auto pay.

Comcast X1 has complete on-demand of pretty much anything you could think of wanting to watch. It works the same way Hulu or Netflix does. Streams right through the box. So no, you don't need to "watch what's on" unless you choose to watch it live.

Convenience to me is going to a website, finding the show or game I want, and watching it for free. Still have to pay for internet which we would be doing anyway with or without cable. Am I watching it on a 50 inch HDTV? No and I am fine with that. I'll sacrifice for the 900-1000 dollars a year we are saving with no cable. Plus, I can always run an HDMI cable to my TV.
