This makes me pretty mad. Our football team is historically horrible. Our offense was horrible. Shoop was not fired because he was an advocate for players rights. He was fired because he was horrible at his job just like he has been horrible pretty much everywhere he has been.

I still remember that intense "football-y" look he always had on his face. He was the Dan Quayle of coaches.

nomination denied. this guy predated the internet's very own "shoop da whoop" meme by what, 30-40+ years? a true trailblazer who picked up where gary crowton left off, much like the punctuation mark at the end of a sentence or shitting on top of a sundae and calling it "hot fudge"

although, it has been said that SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA UNLEASH THE DRAGON!

He was a pretty good offensive coordinator at UNC a few years back. He was clearly not ready for the Bear job and I thought maybe he had grown into competence

Bobby Ross had the same look on his face.

... Purdue’s offense was very young, but despite inconsistent play and rookie mistakes, it showed real promise, something that Burke also noted in his news conference. The Boilermakers scored 36, 38 and 55 points in games this season. Some 28 of the team’s 40 offensive touchdowns were generated by first-year players. (The 55-point game, which resulted in one of Purdue’s two wins this season, was against Nebraska.) ...

The 36 point game was an 18 point loss to a horrible Indiana defense. The 38 point game was to FCS team Indiana State. The Nebraska game was great though.

There is a reason they didn't post any season or Big Ten statistics and instead cherry picked that.

Someone on the Purdue board put this together.
Quote:
2012 - 58th Total Offense, 64th Scoring Offense, 10 Junior or Senior Starters - Season before John Shoop got there
2013 - 94th Total Offense, 93rd Scoring Offense, 5 Junior or Senior Starters - First season
2014 - 108th Total Offense, 95th Scoring Offense, 4 Junior or Senior Starters - Second season
2015 - 94th Total Offense, 93rd Scoring Offense, 9 Junior or Senior Starters - Third and final season

How could you fire someone who is putting up those numbers?

Hey, I'm already part of the "Shoop is a Dope" club like most people, but to suggest that his/his wife's activities/opinions/whatever weren't part of the equation of Purdue launching him instead of considering maybe giving him one more go is, I feel, myopic.

Are you serious? Do you realize how horrible Purdue has been the past 3 years? They've literally put up one of the worst Big Ten records over a three year stretch in Big Ten football history.

So Darrell Hazell has been let go too, yes?

$6.6 million reasons why he wasn't.

And, the athletic director is nearing retirement and he can't be the one to hire a new head coach.

But, even then, it is fairly common in sports for a head coach to get another year while firing assistant coaches.

I think this is how they found Scott Weiland in the back of the bus.

I'm with the Tiny one here. You've got noted union/labor hater Mitch Daniels as your university president and a former steel exec as your AD. No way any campaign supporting players is gonna fly under their watch. I'm aware of how miserable Purdue has been and how ineffective the O has been but I feel his and his wife's activities didn't help him.

Hazel's recruiting has been miserable. Don't see things getting better under his watch anytime soon.

Don't search for hard answers when the easy one is right there.

They fired three assistant coaches, everyone knows the head coach is only there because of the horrible buyout he has and an athletic director that is retiring at least 2 years from now(and likely next year).

If Shoop was even somewhat competent in his time at Purdue then maybe but he has been absolutely horrible, as what the others that were fired.

Make a case why he didn't deserve to be fired because the case for him being fired is really easy.
