From what I see, all managers these days are idiots. The push button aspect of the game have taken a great deal of pressure off a manger.

That's kinda a sad state of affairs, no? What are they paying mangers millions to do? Perform good at press conferences or during Binny's commercials? Personnally, I'd like to see one who could handle a pitching staff without relying on push-button managing. Unfortunately, that ship sailed about 30 years ago.

I've really grown tired of the modern version of the bullpen. It's made the game worse for the fans and easier on the managers. I blame LaRussa. I've always hated him, so he's a good scapegoat. Fuck that drinkin' driivin' assbag.

He's considered the best in the game by those who measure the game by words and not actions. I'm not that impressed by his in game decisions. Like most managers, he relies on bullpen match ups far too much for my liking. 'Hey, there's a righty up, I guess I need to bring in the lefty', or vice versa. I'm of the opinion that managers tend to lose more games than they win. I guess the modem day object of the exercise is to get one that doesn't lose more than he wins. I'm not sure it's ever been any different.

The Sciosia train has fallen off the tracks a little....not sure the St. Louis success is due to the manager, probably higher up..........a couple other highly regarded managers have left the game in recent years.

The above leads me to believe you may think most managers are overrated. Hold onto your undies, but, guess what, I'm inclined to agree with you.

Players win the games and managers lose them. Maddon did his damnedest to lose tonight. However, the players had other ideas.

In modern day baseball, managers can only hurt you. It's up to the front office to find a manager that doesn't cost you more games than he wins. Good luck with that. I don't think it's ever been any different since baseball has been organized. It's about the players you have. No one can make a pile of shit into a bed of roses. Maddon talks a great game, especially on those Binny's commercials and in press conferences. During the game, however, he's only marginally better than Ricky.

STL has one of the worst in-game manager in modern history. Cardinals are good year in and year out because they are a player development machine. Players make managers, rarely the other way around.
