For calling out his player in the media and also giving conflicting quotes. Devin Gage is a Depaul recruit too.

Oh and his team blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead today.

Quote:
Oliver said the plan is to hold Gage out the rest of the week to make sure he gets fully healed.

“I never question anyone’s injury but if it were me I would have played,” Oliver said. “I don’t know his pain tolerance but if I had the opportunity to play in this environment in this type of situation I would have played.”

He never questions anyone's injury, except when he does. Besides then, never.

I was at the game last night. I was seated in the bleachers behind Curie's bench. You could hear him tell his team that they didn't need to score anymore. They were up 52-40 with about 5 minutes to go. They were getting any shot they wanted and he wanted them to stall the ball. They didn't do a good job of stalling but it was too early to stall also. They began turning the ball over. It took their aggressiveness away and it allowed Kenwood to find their footing.

I know Mike and I respect him but he was wrong for questioning the kid's toughness.

Gage had to be helped off the floor following their last game. It was unrealistic to expect him to play.

high school coverage should include nothing more than a report of the game. We should not know the names of high school coaches across this city. I'm even a little reluctant to give the kids as much attention as they receive. ESPN coverage is grotesque in my opinion.

I don't really see a problem with the coverage of high school sports. It has become a business but the exposure that these kids receive has changed the lives of a number of kids. The amount of attention they receive used to bother me, but it doesn't anymore. Without basketball a number of these kids wouldn't be allowed an opportunity to attend college. That's the reality of the situation.

Or no coverage at all

The coverage is reflective of the interest. I attended an elementary school final four tournament last year. Elementary school basketball receives no coverage yet at least 500 people attended the game anyway.

If you want your team to be good, that's what you have to do. I'm not involved in the coaching aspect of it and I don't really attend elementary stuff but I happened to be at a school where this event took place. My point is that they cover it because people are interested.

Is it any creepier than any of the talent shows, world series, or spelling bees that people are so fond of watching?

What about the beauty pegeants?

If that's the case why should there even be child actors?

No one under the age of 18 should be on tv. Give those roles to little people.

There is nothing creepier than beauty pageants involving children.

IIRC, one of the largest crowds ever to watch a football game in Solider Field/Chicago/Illinois was for a CPS Prep Bowl (115-120K) in the 30's. The story of Milan HS is currently being whored out by the NBA with those shitty "Pacers"/alternate uniforms after a "feelgood" movie. "Women's" gymnastics have been dominated by 14-17 yr olds for decades. MLB still loves to bring up the story of the high schooler Bob Feller coming out of the Iowa cornfields & then returning to high school in the 30's. There was national interest in Lew Alcindor @Power Memorial in the mid 60's. Children's birthdates are being tailored to max out HS, LL and travel sports.

This ship sailed long, long ago.

Everyone's favorite romantic high school basketball movie "Hoosiers",
was based exactly on this very thing.

You can turn pro in tennis at 14 play in Wimbledon and the vast majority thinks you are some sort of prodigy, but let someone gain notoriety from playing high school basketball and its deplorable?

Hoosiers glorified high school athletics and it was celebrated. That was the reason I mentioned it.
