He will be back next year........in green and gold....this was just the necessary step to force his free agency. |

I really don't have a problem with any NFL player retiring early with his health in tact, but I especially don't if a player has been languishing for his whole career in Detroit. |

I think we all wish we could've made 60 plus million at our jobs by the time we were 30 and been able to retire . |

If he does follow through and retire, I get it. He's made enough money. He would be a likely 1st ballot hall of famer. His 1,964 yards in 2012 was one of the best individual season's by a player I have seen. Ranks up there with Randy Moss' 2007 season, where Moss had 23 TD's and just under 1,500 yards. Both players were commonly double teamed, yet still produced ridiculous numbers. I doubt it's an attempt to get traded to a better team or more money. I think the physical toll is the issue. Look at how unproductive he was early in the season this year. Then, he got on a roll finally and had a pretty decent year overall....for him. It would be interesting to see what he might accomplish with a guy like Brady or Rodgers throwing to him though. |

Denied He's wisely doing the same thing Barry Sanders did. Getting the fuck out of Detroit while his knees are intact. |

1000000% denied. Good for him. We should all be that fortunate. Unless this is a ploy to be traded, then yeah, DB away. Be up front about wanting out and not pussyfooting with this retirement BS. |

I don't have a problem with what Calvin is doing, but let's not group him in with Barry Sanders and word wise. There isn't a bigger Barry fan than me and that's not an exaggeration. I watched every game he ever played from his junior year in college to his final NFL game. Became a Lions fan for 10 years while he was there. When Barry retired he was an idiot, not wise. And here's why. The year before he retired I was so excited. Why? Because Barry's contract was expiring and he would finally be able to get out of Detroit and go to a team with an actual offensive line, head coach, front office. Rumors were that he would sign with Washington. Instead he decided to re-up with Detroit for 7 years! A year later he realized what a stupid decision that was and retired. All that moron had to do was wait out his contract one more year and then he could've signed with any team in the league. |

I dunno. He had money and that was a pretty good F U to Detroit. |

He's doing the smart thing. It kind of shows you how much confidence he has in the Lions ever winning it all. It kind of pissed me off when Barry retired too. But after watching the A Football Life about him, I totally got why he did it. Class act. |

Hes an idiot. You take the money when you can make it. When hes 40 he wont be able to get a mcjob. And who knows what the future holds he might not have millions in his later life. |

Honestly, the game day atmosphere at Ford Field is actually better than Soldier Field. The stadium is right downtown, just a couple of blocks from some pretty decent bars. Better than walking a mile or more along the lakefront in December. |

The Lions organization is a place where great players retire in their prime instead of continuing to play in Detroit. |

But your argument doesn't make any sense. The Bears are a really shitty organization. I really doubt Arlington Heights being a nice, livable suburb changes that in the minds of players. Same with Detroit and whatevrr suburb you mentioned. |
