Calling out the captain on Twitter! Then followed up with: Quote: @JonathanToews Since ur the best hockey player around u might want to read about the fraud of the hockey stick graph. See @MarkSteynOnline Actual opinions aside, Bruce should follow his own advice by accepting his role as a sportz yuckster and #StickToSports |

Bruce is about as real as it gets.... Pretty humble for a guy who could have been Mike North like, as he was the original intended host the WSCR with Jiggs and he backed out at the last second, opening the door for North. |

I was working (painting) at the old station on Belmont when that all happened. God that place was tiny, with WXRT and the Score (previously a foreign language station of some kind) in the same little building. Danny Lee was all excited about Bruce being part of the team. North was only supposed to be weekends and fill in duties. But Bruce was worried the station would fold quickly and he would be out of a job, so be backed out. North got his chance and ran with it. Bad decision by Bruce, but I liked North and Jiggets so well together, I can't imagine it would have been better. The golden age of sports talk. |

Bruce couldn't have been North though. He was much too high brow for the average Score listener. It really isn't "the smart fans' station". Most listeners were/are like Mike North. I used to love Bruce. But I feel the same way about Bruce now as I do about Dahl. Time has passed him by. |

What North fans liked was he was real. He shot from the hip and didn't sugar coat things. He gave listeners his actual opinions and supported them. Wolf is constantly TRYING to entertain, but the act doesn't work for real sports fans. They don't want goofy voices and stupid jokes. They want information and opinions, along with great guests now and then. The downside to North was he alienated guests frequently, when they were put off by comments/ questions he might pose. But he was one entertaining host and unlike some guys today, he watched all the games and kept informed. |

Bruce mocks sports radio when he argues with a guy on the air, most fans think he is really pissed at a caller... |

I want to believe that telling Toews to shut up and play hockey is the kind of next-level shit we've come to expect from Bruce Wolf (BE A MAN! MAN UP!), but his failure to reduce the whole thing to absurdity makes me fear that he was being earnest. |

I guess I never really thought about his politics. But Id follow him on Twitter at the time and if he wasnt serious, he's a great actor. |

No doubt...the difference between him and Bernstein is that you never feel certain that Bernstein is giving you his actual opinion or if he's just doing his "bit" to elicit emotion. With North, whether it was good or bad, it was real. |

North knew Ozzie was hot and that he was swearing like Ozzie does, but he put him on the air just so he could dump him and then big time him and act like a tough guy. Also, North likes the legend about how he convinced the WSCR guy to put him on the air. There's a basis of truth to that story, but North had radio dreams before that. I think he bought his own air and sold spots. I've heard some of his pre-WSCR shows or air checks and you wouldn't even know it was North. He had that ridiculous accent tamped down so he sounded like a network newscaster. |

He had that ridiculous accent tamped down so he sounded like a network newscaster. Some things he did were calculated. The whole press conference Pat Riley thing certainly was. It got him not only local, but national attention. Stuff like that made him a lot more money though, as his salary increased to $500,000. That was by far, more than anyone else made. The story about convincing Danny Lee to give him a chance with Jiggetts is true. It's also true that Jiggetts had to agree to the pairing, as Danny Lee had the two do mock broadcasts together after Wolf bolted and needed to know if Jiggetts felt okay working with North. Those 2 were a great fit though. North would fly off the handle and Jiggetts would reel him back in. Jiggetts has always been a true gentleman and just a nice guy. I did hear about how North had previously done a show on his own, where he had to sell advertising for the air time he bought. Whatever he did previously, it was fortunate for him that he learned to just be himself on the air. Not to try to change his voice to be "radio guy" , but be authentic. While things might have been calculated at times, his actual opinions on sports that he expressed were real. It worked very well. |
