Matthew, I politely but firmly disagree. But this disagreement will never affect our deep relationship built upon shared feelings.

Because Hawk. Every ball hit by the Sox out of the infield is a hard hit ball.
Time to quantify that shit right out of his hill jack vocabulary.

I love a lot of the stathead stuff but it's like they are trying too hard now. If it was up to me, the exit velocity on this stat would be about 500 MPH.

I'm hoping we get to measure Hoiberg's exit velocity real soon. Same with Forman.

Vegan's contributions to this board completely make up for all Islamic extremism.

I'm guessing bigfan just figured it was a waste of space and not a funny joke. I don't blame him.

Matt,
This exit velocity would have been much more interesting when guys like Frank Howard and Willie Stargell played.

I like Exit Velocity but they overuse it. You dont need to discuss it for every well struck ball.

They don't.

They used it in a couple of interesting situations I thought were acceptable.

For instance...Jorge Soler consistently hits the ball harder than everyone else on the team...yet right now he is hitting for a low average. Over the course of a season, you can expect that he will hit better due to that. And this is why there is such a focus with Mallee and Dave Martinez on trying to elevate the ball a little into more line drives or fly balls. Soler will have monster power numbers with only slight adjustments, hopefully.

only if all other things remain static

Alternatively, a slight adjustment may result in unintended adjustments that cause him to miss the ball much more frequently.

I think a much more interesting analysis would be to look at how much each degree an uppercut is increased affects the distance travelled.

Well, whatever that number is it would be higher than "distance of ground ball". Jorge Soler has hit some rocket one hoppers...many to infielders, unfortunately.

I understand and agree that some tweaks could have a negative impact. But Soler has a lot of talent...and the one bright spot about Schwarber's injury is consistent at bats to Soler. I think he will capitalize.
