Definitely a 'sort of' guy. I like more mainstream stuff? Is that what kids say these days? I like Kid Cudi, Kanye etc, but in limited doses.

I appreciate the genre but haven't purchased any rap in a long time and stopped listening in the mid to late
90s. My handful of rap cds include: Public Enemy, Ice Cube, NWA, Dr Dre and Snoop Dog. I am familiar
with the names of some of the bigger names in rap but I wouldn't recognize a song or lyrics if someone asked
me to identify them. I voted for Sort Of

The only rapper I like is Bez, so I voted no.

I'm going to sound really old here but fuck it.

Today's music sucks, it really does.

Put on some old NWA,Outkast, Notorious BIG,Tupac, Dr Dre,Snoop Dogg,Ice Cube, Ice T,etc etc. These guys today can't hold a fucking candle to the rappers of yesteryear.

just like none of those guys you listed could compare to jimmy spicer. they were all too concerned about bitches and scrilla to have the balls to go 14 minutes.

I owned a Run DMC album once because I thought it would impress a female classmate. I like the movie 8 Mile, surprisingly.

My listenership of "new" rap/hip hop music has fallen off dramatically over the last 8 or 9 years (with some exceptions of course). My golden era is mostly 1987 through about 2003. That said, if there were a "I used to really love it, but don't listen much anymore" option, I would have selected it.

Hope not. Even if votes remain anonymous, I want to see how most people lean.

Granted it is happening in a thread dedicated to Hip Hop...but apparently me not liking the vast majority of rap is a "bad thing." Like I must be a shitty person because of it and rap must be too beyond me to appreciate it.

Laughable...but that is what it seems like.

That is not accurate.

I would encourage anyone interested to read the last page of that thread and see for themselves.

I have the first three or four Eminem albums...and I used to cruise around Eastern Iowa on a Friday Night with UGod blaring on the speakers...other than that, not a lot of rap.

Excellent way of putting it.

I do consider myself a fan of rap, but "fan of most rap" is definitely not an accurate description, and "some random songs here and there" isn't either. There are specific artists that I know I'll enjoy and there are specific artists that I can't cover my ears fast enough when I hear. I greatly despise a sizable portion of what's out there. It was like that even a few years ago when the genre made up a bigger percentage of the music I listened to- it doesn't so much anymore.
Off the top of my head, I've picked up and listened to 2 albums in the last year, and that's about it (this of course not taking into account the incessant noise diarrhea of Jay-Z music that litters most movie previews or accompanies any mention of New York City): Liquid Swords, and Wu Tang Forever, both of which I've owned and enjoyed for many years. I don't remember the last time I actually sat through a new(er) release. It might have been Fishscale or Graduation. I stopped paying attention to Kanye after Graduation.

Yes, but I DO NOT like hip hop or at least not any that I have heard. The Chris Brown, Usher, Rhianna, Flo Rida radio shit....keep it.

I don't have an extensive collection but I have a good amount of 2pac, Ice Cube, Beasties, Snoop, Eazy....hell I even have a few Wu Tang albums. There are still a few current ones out there that I will listen to like Gucci, Waka, Birdman, Rick Ross and even the Chief.
