I never really minded Van Hagar at all. I was biased going in as I liked him solo before and had seen a few shows so I knew what to expect. Maybe it wasn't as hard and a little too radio/video friendly in places it was fine. I much rather have had that than no Eddie at all as Roth was apparently a jack ass and was going to be gone either way.

At any rate, I never understood the angst with the Roth/Hagar factions other than wanting the original back. At no time have I ever said oh please never bring Roth back and keep Hagar forever.

I will tell you one thing... Van Cherone had some might good shows that tour. First one since Roth I heard all the old songs Hagar refused to sing.

Some of the deeper cuts from Van Hagar weren't bad. I actually like Balance.

In terms of their era, nothing beats the Diamond Dave era.

Boyd's Top 10 Diamond Dave Era Songs:
10. Little Guitars
9. Feel Your Love Tonight
8. Beautiful Girls
7. Drop Dead Legs
6. Everybody Wants Some!!!
5. Unchained
4. So This Is Love?
3. Ain't Talking 'Bout Love
2. Panama
1. Runnin' With The Devil

What is the more forgotten era of 80's rock bands?

Gary Cherone Van Halen?

or

John Corabi Motley Crue? (I actually had to look the guy's name up, it's an early leader in the forgotten department).

I'm going with Crue...many Van Halen fans are far too bitter to forget the Cherone era

Cherone was to be forgotten to be sure but the Rothtards were mostly pissed because of that fiasco or pretend reunion with Roth and VMA appearance at the same time to sell the greatest hits.

DD is such a fun record. All of it, even Dancing in the Street. Bowie/Jagger's version, not so much.

WHATGTG is a really solid opener.

Listening to early Van Halen in Jr High and High School helped me find the Kinks.

That album was real music. Fantastic guitar work. Not the bubble gum crap they churned out on all their other records...
