Seeing Paul Simon on the list had me asking a similar question...

Didn't see Slash at all on this list. Did see Keith Urban

And Liz Phair.

Fucking insane.

I like seeing Jerry Cantrell get some love, though. God, they just disappeared. Good to see Kim on there as well. He was always great live.

In making the list, we tended to value heaviness over tastiness, feel over polish, invention over refinement, risk-takers and originators more than technicians. We also tended to give an edge to artists who channeled whatever gifts god gave them into great songs and game-changing albums, not just impressive playing.

Jimmy Page David Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix are my personal top 3. There's nothing cooler than Jimmy Page's riffs.

I completely get that. I'm not impressed with technical chops. I understand that Yngwie is more technically proficent than a lot of people on the list, but I can't name a single Yngwie song. Even so, the list is shitty.

Ya know, the Beatles are just too silly nanny for me to really get into them as musicians.

That's really just Paul and his stupid fucking nursery rhymes. The man can write a melody though.

Yeah. I get that and you're right. But damn man those corn ball songs, ya know? Kinda ruins the immersion to me.

My favorite Beatles story is that after they finished Abbey Road, Lennon wanted to give Dylan a copy so he had the engineer make one but he told him not to put "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" on it.

A guy wanted to fight me once because I said Fa Ce-La was better than any Beatles song.

Something I agree w the darkman about.

I think a lot of their popularity also is due to the fact of conditioning and group think.

They never did anything for me. Yeah yeah yeah not very moving.

He was right but ya know I'd ike to see that fight. I probably would have tried provoking of I were there for that conversation.

What an awful list. Rolling Stones has no concept other than putting Jimmy Page at 3. But he should be #2 or #1.

Brian May and Townsend at 33 and 37? No Beatle in the top 25? George Harrison is 31.

What a joke. And Prince at 14 is before Keith Richards at 17. That's a laugh.

Prince sucks. One good tune---Raspberry Beret---and it's not really a guitar song.

I've never seen Rolling Stones live but Keef = the Edge of his generation... strum pattern gods and culturally malappropriated blues licks. Keith, like Page, gets points for being first.

I've seen Prince live (incl his last time at the UC) and all he does is shred...almost to an annoying degree, tbh. Prince solos every damn song when all the crowd wants sometimes is to sing along to his songs.

Since both performers are long dead, we'll have to Warner Wolf it to settle it:

Greatest Super Bowl halftime show ever that didn't involve Shakira/J-Lo's asses shaking for the camera

vs

Stones halftime show in Detroit

I'd say it's about even based on those clips, so +/-3 spots either way seems legit. Personally I prefer Keith's guitar playing but there's an argument for Prince.

Prince's music has not aged well apart from the one song I mentioned. It was original for the time and that's it.

The music of the Rolling Stones and Keith's guitar playing is timeless. I've actually been listening to a lot more Stones in the last couple of months.

But I don't know what happened to the Stones' creativity after the end of the 60s. They were already over the hill in the 70s and have lived off their reputations since then. Start Me Up and Angie are not a lot to show for a decade of work.

Maybe their loss of creativity in the 70s can be explained that the Beatles were no longer around to push them.

Wherever Lifeson is, he also deserves to be higher. He's one of the most prolific guitarists.

Does it surprise anyone that Rube has the awful opinion that Prince sucks and his music has not aged well?

If there's one thing everyone should be able to agree on...it's the Greatness of Prince. Most even acknowledged it before he died.

Rube probably thinks Stevie Wonder is a hack, as well
