overall, the 2010 SF lineup had to have been one of the "best" that I can remember.

saw a band named Carney last night. these guys are the goods...
kind of like radiohead, elbow, minus the bear, with some classic 70s rock vocal harmonies.

Group of the Altos was also fantastic. 11 piece band. drums, viola, violin, three guitars, two trumpets, bass, piano, and a dude that played all kinds of instruments i've never seen before.

311 last week, N.E.R.D. was amazing last night. caught two songs from the Scorpions and a song by Slightly Stoopid.
Modest Mouse tonight. Cypres Hill, The Roots, The Devil Wears Prada, Pepper, Passion Pit, The Wailers, Jeff Beck, Public Enemy, Thievery Corporation, Nonpoint, Weird Al!, Chevelle, The Bravery, O.A.R., Rush, Frampton, Against Me!, Silversun Pickups, all kinds of decent acts the past week.

Lot's of really heavy and rock bands spread throughout instead of just at the north end. TONS of Kids this year...i.e. 21 year olds.

This is still my favorite music festival in the area.
you can have lollapalooza and it's $75-90 ticket. I'll take $15 (actually free both times I went since I know peeps), lake breeze, open space, places to sit, reasonable food and $5 "good" beer prices, actual bathrooms with running water, any day...

Seems like DEP is making two different points here:

If you could choose between the lineups at Lolla or at Summerfest, if the cost was equal, Lolla wins by a mile (minus Ga-Ga). There are plenty of bands I'd want to see at Lolla, but I can't justify spending that much at this point.

The cost of Lolla is the big downer. It's outrageous.

I am seriously looking forward to the the weekend of 7/16-7/17. Old 97's for free at Navy Pier on the 16th, Pitchfork on the 17th for $40 to see Jon Spencer and LCD Soundsystem, plus 10 other bands.
