I'm going to a show at The Rave up in Milwaukee on Friday (Arctic Monkeys). Any of you Northerners ever been there (T-Bone)? The reviews say it's a dump, and in the hood, but I'm having trouble believing a bunch of suburbanites that posted reviews to yelp. What impressions can any of you give about the venue? What's the parking like? Any places to drink around there? Etc....

I am pretty sure Doug has been up there for shows if I remember correctly. I have never been there, but you are right
I haven't heard any glowing reviews. This place is about 4 or 5 blocks directly west of Marquette's campus. It isn't in
a good neighborhood. In fact it is only about 3 blocks south of where Jeffery Dahmer's apartment once stood before they
tore it down. Sorry, I really don't know too much about the parking situation there. The place is on a main street so that
is good at least. Parking closer to Marquette may be advised but pming Doug may be a good idea. Spanky or Bagels may have seen some hipster bands there too.

I've been there a few times, but it's been a few years. It's a dump, sound is pretty bad. Last time I was there a nice young man with glasses invited me back to his apartment to to play video games. I had to run, but he was friendly. Wonder whatever happened to him?

Anybody going to any NYE shows?

There is a pay lot behind the building on Michigan Street, but we've always found parking between 23rd and 20th streets on Michigan. Also street parking on Wisconsin Ave.

The sound isn't terrible, it just really depends on where you are there, more than any venues I've been to. If you can find a spot near a column on the floor, it's pretty good.

Get a beer at the Harp and Shamrock on 21st and Wells. 5 block walk.

I was just there at the Eagles Club, which is above it about a month ago. I always just pay and park behind it, $25.00. At least they have security there, I had my passenger side window knocked out one time when I parked on a side street there. It is going to be so cold, I don't know how much walking you are going to want to do, but if you are up for it Doug's advice is good.

The Lawrence Arms show I mentioned a page or two back is a NYE show and it will be glorious.

I can't tell you who we are seeing on NYE because you will judge me more than Haim.

I'm not going, but Death at Reggie's was really appealing to me, but I lost the vote.

Jimmy Eat World/Smoking Popes. Like I said, I wanted to see Death but the group we are going with out-voted me.

BoDeans????? You've got to give me a little more credit than that.

I won't be there, sorry Spanky. No NYE shows for me this year. Did that a few times, but I think I'm giving it up.

the last one I went to was Jesus Lizard @ Metro in 2010...it was definitely fun but aside from starting the show at 11:45 or so and being greeted into the new year by David Yow, it was basically just a regular show...for about 3x the normal ticket price. so yeah, i think from now on i'm passing unless its like one of my 2 favorite bands ever or something

I've never really done a NYE show, and I'm pretty excited now that you guys make it seem so special.

It's a dump. There were standing puddles of piss all over the bathroom floor. Very classy.

How would you compare it to The Riv or Aragon? I would consider those the perfect Chicago dump venues.
