Just out of curiosity, how are you with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones? I was big into them in high school (or as big as you could be downloading music at a dialup pace), I still like some of their stuff quite a bit.

Bela Fleck is one of the best banjo players on the planet. I'm a bigfan.

Hornsby was AWESOME with the Dead. I didn't know Vince had whaced himself...sad.

Brent was my fav....he wrote some cheesy songs, but had an amazing voice and played the B3 better than anyone.

Good set list....I'm also fine with not going. This weekend I enjoyed Hundred Year Haul and 7/13/1984 Greek Theater in it's place.

You like the Hammond B3? I once burned a CD of my favorite Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Don Patterson tracks. Great stuff for a long drive.

He stabbed himself in the neck. Apparently, the rest of the band held a grudge against him because he and Jerry both liked to do heroin together. They shut him out, and he couldn't deal with it. Jerry was a big boy. He made his own decisions.

Blow Away is a great song. When I listen to shows from the 80's, I realize how great his background vocals were.

It's easier to take not going listening to these phenomenal audio streams that are out there.

I get it.....music critics are just...what they are....
but they seem to be just crushing the Dead for the way they are going out tonight.

Fair to say this weekend was a straight up gigantic "cash grab"??? or nah

I think I know one song and I don't think it's very good. Do I have to be stoned to like it?

I never care what music critics think. Their job is to complain.

No. In listening to these shows, it is obvious that they spent plenty of time practicing. Tonight is the fifth show, and they have only repeated one song.

These guys were selling out stadiums for years in the late 80's/early 90's. I doubt they are hurting for money. This was putting a bow on a stellar fifty year career.

If memory serves, being stoned helps a great deal in many instances when it comes to enjoying things.

I agree with you about music critics. They are music fans, like we are, but we all like different forms of music. That's natural.

I'm not a dead guy, obviously, but there seems to be a lot of complaints about tempo/time between songs/time between sets. Maybe that was common back in the day. Seems to be the opinion is too many "slow songs" not enough "dancing songs",

No?

Jam band fans are fickle. They love to bitch about everything. I don't get to shows like I used to, so I enjoy every second of it.

I do not want to let go of that. It's fun.
I gotta lot of tickets to shows coming up.

I never got "Jam band". I know that's a broad brush to paint. But 10+ minute songs make me lose focus.

Unless James Murphy is involved.

They didn't play "Touch of Grey" at the last show?

EDIT: oh you edited that post to add the encore, yes, of course
