I agree that Bob Mould is a good choice. I never liked the sound of Husker Du as much as my friends did.

Yep. Apparently they were pretty ferocious live, and I think their live album has some songs on it from the Vic or The Riv, but I'm with you on their 'sound'. I also don't really care much for Grant Hart's songs in general. I absolutely love Warehouse, and don't give much of a shit about Zen Arcade, so what do I know? I did see Bob on the Black Sheets of Rain tour when I was in high school. Ultra Vivid Scene opened. It was awesome. And SUGAR???????????? Those 2 albums and the Beaster ep are my favorite things Bob has ever done.

I have to say that number one on this list would have to be Sting, because of his album, "The Dream of the Blue Turtles." Sting is a musical genius anyway, but there are songs on this album that are absolute masterworks, from "Russians" to 'Fortress Around Your Heart." I think better than anyone, except maybe Pink Floyd, Sting wove jazz instrumentation into his music and this album in particular and fused it with rock and classical elements. You really can't beat the lyrics on "Russians" with its profound poetry, which captures the zeitgeist of the Cold War and Russia's place. Even after this album, Sting wrote so many good songs like "Streets of Gold", "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", and "All This Time" off of Soul Cages.

Week by week, how do you top yourself each time for stunningly bad takes?

If you're talking about Robert Plant from...say 1999 thru present day, there can be an argument made.

If its 80s 'In The Mood' Plant, no way.

I don't know if this really counts. Frank Turner was in a Hardcore band before pretty much dumping the genre and going folk punk. I think Moby was in a hardcore band. Billy Joel was in a psychedelic band called Attila before he became, you know, Billy Joel. I think the intent of the thread is movement within a relatively similar level of notoriety.

Jack White's best work is still the White Stripes.

Absolutely not. Plant had a couple of good songs off of Now and Zen, like Ship of Fools, and Fate of Nations with 29 Palms and If I Were A Carpenter, but nothing that comes close to his work with Zeppelin. Plant didn't have much of a voice left after 1973. Even his late Zeppelin stuff was not great, though I disagree with JORR that All of My Love is a bad song. John Paul Jones shines on that track. The live versions of All of My Love from the 1980 European tour are worth checking out. You hear a lot more of Page's guitar than in the studio version. The ending of that song is quite nice, actually.

Paul McCartney himself said Wings was not a good group, but I have to give him credit for "Maybe I'm Amazed", a fantastic song. But that song came out in 1970. He was still in his Beatles form.

Have you read his autobiography? Tucking sad in that it comes across that he thinks he isn't appreciated. I saw him one time at the Metro, louder and hardest acoustic guitar ever.

If you're talking about Uncle Tupelo and considering Wilco to be whoever is in the room with Jeff Tweedy to help him execute his vision, maybe. If you're talking about Tweedy's solo album he made with his kid on drums where every song is a big strummy lump about how the trees outside the window look nice or whatever, then hell no.

Sugar was great....saw them around the time they released Copper Blue...Husker Du broke up when I was in high school, just when I started to listen to them, so never saw them.

There are several good Husker Du songs, but for obvious reasons I can't help comparing them with the Replacements, and the Replacements were so much better than Husker Du.

Back in the day Marie of Donnie and Marie could have made it big if she went solo and tramped up her image just a little. I think a sex video would have been too much in the 70's but who knows.

Cream is far superior to everything else Clapton ever did. Do you work at XRT or something?
