Oh c'mon....i was waiting for you to put Stone Roses :(

I believe the only US appearance in Chicago that I am aware of was when the played a set at some Q101 festival at the World circa Second Coming. I'm not sure if it even happened; i've never seen any accounts of it

When they were rumored to be headlining Coachella last year reunited, I was all set to buy my plane ticket to Cali

If I could invent a time machine, I would set it for May 27, 1990. I would then board a flight for England, and rent a car to drive to Spike Island. However, I do not have a time machine, and never saw The Stone Roses in person.

Let me share with you a little secret. Although my board name is Stoneroses86, my favorite band ever is The Smiths. And Imo Bun B.

Maybe some day I will change my board name to StevenPatrickMorrissey86. Or ImoBunB86.

I saw StoneRoses at Jamboree in the mid-90's. It was "meh".

Favorite show I missed was Phish back around 99 or 2000. I was supposed to go with a girlfriend and her friends, but I missed my ride while I was sitting in a bar watching an OT football game.

Dude.....Bro Montana.... wow! I was at both of these! That Green Day show was the one that MTV recorded live and aired, wasn't it?

My all time favorite was Paul McCartney at Soldier Field in 1990 and of course my first show ever, Iron Maiden in 1987 at Rosemeisen. 8)

Eagles are 1 and 1a for me...first show was longer and was almost exclusively older material, while the second show was a lot of the new stuff...each great in their own way...

Unless Don Felder and Glen Frey beat the hell out of each other on stage, I doubt either was good.

No

Only latter day Metallica. I don't hate the Eagles, I just enjoy their dysfunction.

Jesus Lizard @ Metro, 11/28/09: never saw them in their prime, but this show was insane and brought the rock harder than any show I've seen in the last 10 years

OutKast @ House Of Blues, 12/3/98: a rare good live rap show

Van Morrison @ United Center, 4/23/06: my only time seeing him...very professional show, tight band...very happy I got to see him

Pulp @ Metro, 5/28/96: amazing live band, touring for their greatest album. insanely good show

Stevie Wonder @ Charter One, 9/10/07: sat in the rain waiting for over an hour only to have the show canceled (despite "rain or shine") and moved to the next day....he more than made up for it though, playing a 3 hour set encompassing EVERY single song you'd ever want to hear, hits & deep album cuts included

Al Green @ House Of Blues, 5/31/02: a chance to see a legend; did not disappoint

Blur & Pulp @ The Vic, 9/17/94: never had seen Pulp before and they opened...Blur was touring for Parklife. In my top 5 shows ever.

Robert Pollard @ Metro, 3/31/06: the drunkest I've ever been at a show. still salting from missing Guided By Voices NYE show in 2004, I had been building up anticipation waiting for this show and he played the best set of any of the times I've seen him

Ween @ Metro, 10/30/94: saw them a few times but this one was the best.

Steely Dan @ Michael McDonald @ First Bank Ampitheatre, 7/8/06: this was a bit odd....was meant to be a father's day present since my Dad loves both, but he couldn't make it since he was out of town. I was a mild Dan fan, but this show was really really fun...it was a gorgeous summer night out and the set was great

Leonard Cohen @ Chicago Theatre, 5/5/09: another rare chance to see a legend. played a 2 1/2 hour set, was very gracious and even a bit funny

u-Ziq & Luke Vibert/BJ Cole @ Metro, 2/5/00: a rare good electronic/techo show. Cole is a steel guitarist and for some reason the sound with Luke Vibert was just insane ear candy.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion @ Metro, 8/26/95: on record they've always been hit or miss to me, but live they really rock out

Foreign Exchange @ Double Door, 1/30/09: have seen them 3 times now. now that the Roots are getting long in the tooth, this is the best live rap (if you want to call it that)/r&b show. Tight band and Phonte is very funny and is a great storyteller

Bonnie Prince Billy @ The Vic, 3/14/09: one of the greatest songwriters of our generation, the first chance I had to see him live and it was well worth it.

Spiritualized @ Metro, 11/20/97: great psych band, great live show, great visuals...only time I ever got to see them

Yo La Tengo @ Metro, 11/10/95: of the 10+ times I've seen them, this was the best. even the opening band was great. this was the time I fell asleep on the Metro steps at 3am....they played like 3 encores and were still playing at 3am

They Might Be Giants @ The Vic, 11/7/94: also the first time I got to see them. they had a crazy stage setup with a giant street lamp..plus even though the tour was for John Henry, they weren't that far removed from the holy trinity of Lincoln/Flood/Apollo 18 so the setlist was very good

Ol Dirty Bastard @ House Of Blues, 8/3/98: the best of any Wu related show i've seen so far, amazingly enough. was coherent, not falling down drunk, really really fun show

Weezer @ Metro, 9/8/94: the ticket price was 7$ and the only thing they played was the blue album, the one song on their labels comp album and one cover. it was awesome though.

Elton John....1972...Berkeley Community Theatre....Berzerkeley, California
Traffic......1972 or 73......Winterland......San Francisco
I have seen the Stones 17 times...twice in London.....the show they put on in MILWAUKEE a few years ago was just rockin..........Buddy Guy was up there with them for a song or 2.
I've seen Springsteen 5 times...all here....That damned Irish ballad he has been playing lately turns his shows into some sort of REVIVAL meeting...

I forgot The Stones "Steel Wheels Tour" at Alpine in '89. Great show and great entertainment watching douchebags sliding down the rain-soaked hills.

Every Aerosmith show. Ever. Although Sunday's was levels above any I'd seen before.
Most U2 shows as well. Soldier Field last summer goes in the other thread though.
Foo Fighters / Chevelle @ UIC Pavilion 2003
Rush @ UC 199...7? Test for Echo tour.
Bon Jovi Soldier Field 2006
Price at the Horizon a few years ago. Don't really dig him, but it was free tix and he puts on a HELL of a live show.

Hoffy brought up a comic which I hadn't considered when looking at this list. I
saw George Carlin in Rosemont back in about 2003 or 2004. Hilarious. I bought a
poster that had like 200 or 250 dirty words on it that I hung in my garage for a
number of years, and I used a majority of them while working on projects out there.

Rush - Vapor Trails 2001- Tweeter Center : Awesome show. Great crowd. Great energy. All Rush for 3.5 hours. Played the greats and some gems. Plus Vapor Trails wasn't droning like Snakes and Arrows so the songs played from it didn't grind the show to a halt.

U2 - Popmart 1997 - Soldier Field: Bono's voice was actually in really good shape for this show. He could still hit all the notes, the set list was stacked, well paced and the crowd was awesome. Great stage show, no politics or other such things to slow everything down, kill any momentum and make the crowd of 55k plus collectively roll their eyes. A freight train from start to finish.

Rod Stewart -U.C.- 2007- Top notch show. 2.5 hours of the Rod father with almost nothing coming from his lame "American Songbook" albums. Still one of my favorite shows.

Mark Knopfler- Chicago Theatre- 2009- I love the Dire Straits and Knopfler is good solo as well. C.T. is a great venue to see a show. Laid back, he was funny and the set list was a mix of D.S. and his solo stuff as well. Great show.

Dream Theater/Joe Satriani - Rosemont Theater- 2002 or so- I'm a prog rock nerd at times and this show was great. It was in support of D.T.'s 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence which a like as well. One of the many shows that I drove from EIU to see and drove back to the same night/morning. Often making it back at 2-3-5am to finish a paper or something for a 9am class.

Black Sabbath - OzzFest. The first time I saw Ozzy at Ozzfest he sucked. He was solo, drunk and incoherent. Could barely sing and the set list was cut short. I had a Blackhawks jersey on, was spraying fans with a hose, repeated the same lyrics to Iron Man at least 4 times and left the stage with saying (I think) "I can't....I can't do it right now".....Totally different with Black Sabbath. It kicked ass.

In no particular order;

Pearl Jam- 2003 @Alpine Valley
Band hit the stage while is was still very light out. Fanclub section went nuts as soon as the opening notes of "Sometimes" rang out. The second United Center show last summer ranks right up there as well

U2- Popmart tour 1998 @Soldier Field
I wish I was more into them at the time. It was my first concert ever and it did not dissapoint

Local H- various times, various venues
I've probably seen these guys 15 times or so. A couple that stick out was the first time I saw them at Bourbon St, where they opened up with Buffalo Trace. I also saw them in Champaign 5 or 6 years go, and I was literally directly in front of Brian's bass drum. My ears rang for no less than a week

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant- 1998 @United Center
Plant didn't sing very well, but Page was spot on this entire tour. I was too young to appreciate how cool this show was, but some thing stick out: Ramble On, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times. I hope he tours again before he kicks it.

Primus - 1995. As I mentioned in the Primus thread, it was the 'Punchbowl tour. I was a huge fan of the band's unique sound ever since I heard Jerry Was a Racecar Driver while in high school, although I had no idea how incredibly the music would translate to a live show. Les Claypool's stage presence gets the crowd worked-up like few other front men can do, and Larry LaLonde and Herb Alexander are so in-tune that the live music is almost as tight as the polished studio version.

What are your top live shows, CSFMB?

Was this at UIC?

Sorry, Huffy - I think that I was year off regarding that show. I think that I saw that Doug mentioned an Aragon show in '94 - that must've been the year. Each of the shows that I mentioned all took place at the Aragon - damn, how I love the Brawlroom!

1. They Might Be Giants in Central Park for their 20th anniversary show in 2003. It was free, and just a great day. They kicked us out early but I still heard echoes of "Birdhouse" through the night. The walk home from Central Park hearing TMBG was somethin' else.

2. Primus at the EF in '98. Around the time of the Brown Album. It was a non stop mosh pit, which was kinda shitty but it was just amazing watching Les. Quite an adventure getting home, too. My friend and I missed the train back to DE and had to sleep in the train station all night long like bums.

3. REM at the Tweeter Center in '99. The "Up" tour, which I mentioned in the "worst" thread. They played some CLASSIC stuff like "Cuyahoga", "Fall on Me", "Radio Free Europe", "Pilgrimage", and I think even "Me in Honey". Horrible opener, Space Hog. But fantastic show. Like CLH's experience at one of his shows, though, had a hellacious drive home. It was raining heavily and my driver's side windshield wiper flew off. It was bad.

4. Aerosmith at the Tweeter Center in '01 I think. Loudest show I'd ever been to. I know most of ya'll hate 'em but they put on a damn good show.

5. Dream Theatre at...I can't remember the name of the theatre but I think it was in Upper Darby, PA. An old theatre. Excellent 3 hour set.

6. "A Mighty Wind" live at the same damn venue...wish I could remember the name. Nothing like seeing Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Christopher Guest, and Mike McKean up close and live. That was awesome.

7. Ben Folds in '02 I think. He's just incredible live. Just him and his piano, and that music pounded throughout the electric factory.

8. Charlatans UK in '99 in DC. Really groovy night.

9. Reel Big Fish in '97 - not because of them. they were douchebags. But The Smooths were awesome, and so were MxPx; and my sister and the guitarist of the smooths dated, which got us into the Warped Tour and we mingled with some band dudes. It was fun.

10. Built to Spill in '02 in DC. Opener sucked but i got to meet doug martsch and they played "the dream police" for god's sake. it was awesome.

12/31/08 - The Lawrence Arms - Reggie's - I don't remember much of anything at this show, as I was pretty obliterated before it even started. But getting "100 Resolutions" at midnight was pretty fucking awesome. Two hour set with not a clunker in it. I ended up getting to bed by 5:30 only to have to wake up at 8:00AM still drunk to go to the Winter Classic.

Whoever opened, the copyrights and some band with one of the guys from screaching weasel i think, were rockin as well. I remember parking myself by a horse trough full of ice and cheap as hell pbr or old style talls and drinking about half of it.

Hank III @Vino's in Little Rock, Arkansas 08 was surprising excellent with no rednecks either.
Pennywise@some club in Tempe, AZ 08 was fucking insane with all the tweakers in the pit
Beastie Boys@Rosemont Horizon 95 I think. This was the first concert I ever went to and I remember it being cool whether it really was or not.

Low @ Old Town School, Halloween 2001 or 2002 - Old Town School is the best setting to see this band, and I've seen them in several different settings.

Colleen @ Empty Bottle, September 2006 - Part of the WIRE Adventures In Modern Music Festival (video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGAmD4rHU64)

International Noise Conspiracy @ Fireside Bowl, 1999(?) - One of the last great shows I saw there, if I recall correctly (missed Alkaline Trio & Braid).

(Related: each and every time Bane played Fireside Bowl and closed out to a cappella sing-alongs.)

Acid Mothers Temple @ Abbey Pub, May 2004 - Played for (what I recall to be) at least 5 hours, including "Pink Lady Lemonade" and "La Novia" (two ~hour-long songs).

There's a lot of love for Local H in this thread. I didn't mind them back in the early days with Joe on drums and I've got no beef with Scott Lucas, but I just can't get past the fact that Brian St. Clair is a complete tool.
